WITS.. Ticonderoga?

So I'm driving home to Boston from the Middlebury area this morning, and I'm twirling the dial and pull in a lousy signal of what I believe was WITS in Ticonderoga, NY. 1250-AM. A quick search got me WITS in Johannesburgh, South Africa. pretty sure that wasn't it...

Kind of a wierd, but definitey different morning show, judging the the 15-20 minutes I pulled in before it was unlistenable. Seems like oldies.

I heard some spoof (I HOPE it was a spoof) commercial for "Tally Wacker Bus Lines," a play on Hooters Air... :D Pretty funny stuff.

Anyone know about this place? I never heard of the station, and it doesn't seem to get mentioned much here. Is this the right place to ask?

I'm new to this site. Seems pretty cool...

Thanks!

Chuck

Yup, sounds like us all right.. Please pardon the appearance of our website--the new one should be up within a month or so, when we start airing ABC News and programming...Thanks for the kind words...

::) WOW! Talk about a great set of call letters!

Now if somebody (PD, music programmer, etc.) could come up with a "masochistic music format"---the WIPS call letters would be PERFECT!

As I like to say on occasion, "The Bridge: You provide the chains, we provide the WIPS!"
Then again... some might say just listening is punishment enough! ;).

The IP in WIPS refers to International Paper, which has had a mill there for years. From Ticonderoga Chamber of Commerce site: "Ticonderoga also has a significant history in the Paper making Industry. International Paper's Ticonderoga mill traces its origins to 1882 and the banks of the LaChute River in the village of Ticonderoga."

WIPS..... I visited there in 1965 when I was a teenager. It was at the end of a dirt raod near Lake George, and one could see its 2-light blinking tower from across the lake in Vermont. Apparently, they were in to comedy back then too.... they often played old comedy records of "The Bicksersons," a husband-wife dialogue setting. I was 15 years old then..... and wondered WHY any radio station would shut down at sunset.

Well, the physical station has moved a few times since then. For the past five years our studios have been in beautiful downtown Crown Point, about ten miles up the road from Ti... The stick, of course, is still in the swamp by the Ti rail station and ferry dock...

AND, we no longer shut down at sunset; we're on all night at a whopping 80-or-so watts!
