SAVE THE DATE -- FEB. 29TH --
for 91.9 WITT Community Radio at Radio Radio!

February 29th, leap year, will not be like any other day. It's the official kick-off of an outreach and fundraising campaign to build on a 15-year journey to get 91.9 WITT Community Radio to Central Indiana!

Doors open at 8:00 pm, and at 8:30 pm the evening will open with Kate Lamont & Blueprintmusic (Americana), followed by Sarah Grain (folk/jazz), The Philosophy (hip-hop), Blackberry Jam featuring Jumbo Shrimp (funk/soul) and Mudkids (hip-hop). The cost is $7. All proceeds will go directly to 91.9 WITT. DJ Spread from The Philosophy will be spinning between sets.

Event attendees will also be able to bid on donated silent auction items that will benefit WITT and win raffle items! Items will include concert tickets to the Murat and Verizon Wireless from Live Nation, a wellness and massage package from Healing Arts Indy, packages of diverse local music and merchandise from Audio Recon, a Made in Indiana food basket from Two Cookin' Sisters, portrait sessions with Crowe's Eye Photography, a 1" caliper shade tree from Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, Inc., one day of recording at Snapjoint Studios, gift certificates to Missing Link Records, a gift certificate to Earth House Coffee and more!

The next fundraiser is scheduled for Zionsville in March. I'll post the details soon. There will be numerous events throughout central Indiana in months to come. :)
 
Yeah, and if you come up with some lame stunt like having a DJ on the air for a record-breaking 10,000 hours -

To sort of get this subject off promoting the upcoming benefit concert on
this coming Friday (29th at RadioRadio in historic Fountain Square), perhaps
it would be interesting to find out what others think about Community Radio.

First, is the concept of community radio familiar to you?
If so, what stations have you heard or are familiar with and in what city or town?
Finally, what did you like about the ones you've experienced and what didn't you
like? What would you like to hear on WITT?

Jim, give us something close to KDHX St. Louis and you've got a preset. Avoid the typical volunteer frustrated DJ wannabes playing whatever they want at any costs.

Nuvo this week has a good article by Scott Shoger discussing not only the fundraiser
this Friday at RadioRadio in Fountain Square, but much of the history and future
ideals of WITT. The beautiful photo within the article is of folk singer Sarah Grain.
Sarah has also devoted much energy and time to making sure this benefit concert
happens successfully and happily. WITT thanks her very much as well as
her colleagues on this project, Sara Pugh and Brooke Kljenot.

Why not play 24/7 Dance Music on WITT, it would get way more listeners than all that off the wall stuff community radio usually does. Plus, you can still get involved in the community and do fundraisers and so fourth, just play the good music. Their is definately a niche market for Dance in Indianapolis, or else Emmis wouldnt have spent all the money on an HD-2 Dance Station, plus have a 6 hr Dance music show on Friday Night, WRZX has a 3 hour Dance music show on Saturday Nights, and WBDG airs Dance music every night from 8 pm to 4 am. So why not use your little signal for something that people might actually listen to and get addicted to the consistent format. Your station could be famous throughout the U.S with a Dance Format, and it would get so much attention and so many people talking. Dont be like another Quin station that plays freaking Irish Jigs, and Spanish Drinking songs, and old crap from Grandpa's 78 LPs. IM telling you, if you want people to support your station, play Dance Music, I will happily come up and volunteer to do whatever you want me to do, and whenever you want me to do it.
 
How about asking around in Boone County and see what locals want?
Be proactive ... before the FCC makes you have a Boone County based advisory board!
 
Except...the COL is in Hendricks county ???
