WIVK funny moment

I was in a business today that had on WIVK and they played Brooks & Dunn "Rock My World" which contains the line "she acts like Madonna but she listens to Merle." I found somewhat amusing that they are inadvertently endorsing the competition every time they play this!

I'm surprised they are still including that song on their playlist. Hit the chart in late 93, peaked in early 94. Whenever I hear them, the frog seems to have forgotten county music existed before Taylor Swift. If you want to call her noise country. I'd rather hear fingernails on a chalkboard. Or a cat fight. Seriously, I like Merle better. The possibilities would be great of Ronnie could just get it on a larger signal.

Now that Art Sutton has changed the Franklin, NC station to 104.1 the possibility of Merle increasing it's power could be a reality.

WIVK still plays a lot of '90s, at least they did when I heard them yesterday. However they seem to play just the huge hits. There are no "oh wow" songs anymore like they used to play in the pre-Cumulus days.

How much of their music is decided out of Atlanta these days?

I'm out of earshot, but I don't think this has happened yet - according to both stations' websites and and FCC query. This must be a coordinated move, because one of Sutton's other stations about 30 miles down the road in Clayton, GA, must move from 104.1 to 96.3 (station WRBN) then WNCC can vacate 96.7 and move to 104.1 - it will be interesting to see if Merle can take advantage of this.

WMYL also has a slight overlap with WJBZ (less than half a kilometer). So any move Merle makes will have to slide to the southwest (toward Solway) to protect WJBZ. WJBZ is pretty much the same direction as WNCC so Art's move really isn't a factor here.
