WIXC 1060 Identity Crisis

Listened to the Miami Dolphins game on 1060 today... station still uses the ESPN 1060 liners off and on during the game (mixed with "The Big Talker") ... they haven't been ESPN for quite a while (more than a year, right?) Even more confusing, they run a series of General Motors brand "repair" commercials and three times I heard the "See Mr. Good Wrench ... at your Pontiac Dealer" promo .... both brand names that no longer exist. Not sure if the GM ads are the Dolphin's network ads, but most still referred to getting a "Fall Tune Up". Beyond that, the only other ad I heard the whole game not by the "game" was for a local home repair show that airs ever Saturday @ 10am.

BTW, the original Big Talker WPHT Philly is now branding itself simply "Talk Radio" as they start the new year with a revised line-up, live and local in drivetimes. Beck, Hannity have no outlet in Philly for now.

What exactly is WIXC calling itself these days? Is it still "The Big Talker"? "News-Talk 1060"?

They ought to call themselves what the old WOIO-AM 1060 Canton, Ohio did about 1967-73 or so.."Two-Way Radio"..Talk radio was kind of rare in smaller markets then, and their lineup was Live/Local..They should have kept those call letters..Now Catholic Format WILB..

I was impressed that they are now streaming WIXC online. However, there's a banner ad on the Streamtheworld window that says, "Your Message Here, Contact your Local Account Rep: 321.421.6330". Except that phone number is not in service. If somebody really wanted to advertise on this station where would they call? How would the reach a sales person? Do they have salespersons? Is that now Greg Sherlock? Are there any other employees of the station?

That is a real shame. WIXC has much potential to be a real player in the market and make serious money in the process. It takes dedication and committment to make it happen.

Well, they wouldn't need to change the call letters... X... Christ... "I believe in Christ"...

Good to see Paper Bill still checking in from Way Up North. You of course know this sleepy Brevard and the economic shock treatment coming down from Washington. We know WIXC was purchased for 650K in year 2000 and The Genesis remote ownership group has invested probably a Million $ in the 50KW power, given a half-hearted staff and ownership effort into the Cumu-Clear controlled market for 10 plus years. Electrical power lines wipe out the potential coverage of ALL the county from either the Melbourne signals or the WIXC signal beyond Cocoa Beach Southward.
Radio's battles against the environment, the lousy receivers and the slowly failing power distribution from various sources are a matter of record and quickly spreading now into the FM spectrum as well. Nobody effectively covers all of Brevard with consistency these days, or programs their facilities in a real local manner.
Opened ended research and PPMs both indicate most people have given up on radio or never discovered the once great benefit offered. Satellite radio listeners say again and again they prefer the long range coverage between cities and states, citing the variety of music not available on free radio any longer. When asked about the missing local content most look puzzled and can be prompted to mark the 'local long gone' answer if they were lucky enough to have enjoyed "local" in another life.

Well, local radio would include having a telephone number in the 321 area code, I would think. The number listed on the streaming site is now 813, the Tampa area code. Other than Greg Sherlock, is there any one else left at the station locally?

In my humbel opinion, WIXC should really go live and local, or at least as much as they can given the current econimic crisis.

Signal is better, though the audio truly sucks. This radio station should leap out of the dial but it doesn't. Anyone could program this and get ratings...
