WIXI 1360 Format Flip

Jasper's WIXI AM 1360 has dropped it's Classic Country format for a Spanish format sometime within the past week. Rivera Brodcasting purchased the station back in November, thus ending the CC format featured on the station since March 2005. I kinda doubt the format will be very feasible in the Jasper area, considering WCOC AM in Dora basically did the same thing about 10 years ago, and fell silent. Oh, well, the road goes on forever and the party never ends :)

True. In the last 5+ years, WCOC has been OFF more than it's been on. The owner could barely keep his Atlanta station going. As for the demise of "WIXI in Dixie" that's a shame.

Sad that this kind of flip keeps chasing more listeners away from AM radio than it brings in.

Guess no one does market research these days..just owner's whim formats, and then they wonder why it doesn't work.

There is a station about 50 miles from me that did this, and it bills under $10k annually.

I predict this change will be a failure for those involved.

So sad indeed.

Speaking of Spanish formats, how is WIQR Prattville doing with their partial presentation of it?

Just wondering.
