WIXI 1360

WIXI completed their upgrade from 1,000 watts to 12,000 watts about two weeks ago. The signal is good in Cullman (except within a one mile radius of WFMH 1340) and Hartselle. I can also hear them almost to Madison before becoming unlistenable. The format is still Classic Country, with Clark Howard show in the afternoons along with a local talk show. So far, I am pleased with the signal and it seems to be better than what the Radio-Locator maps estimate.

Btw, welcome back, Zach!

I heard the new and improved WIXI signal about a wk ago, on my way back to Shelby County. I did a scan on my car radio, and it landed on 1360, in the Pelham area. Never has done that before that far south of Bham. Heard it with a listenable signal all the way back to Alabaster.

That's pretty impressive. passtheword, did you not get any interference from WBYE on 1370?

TALLRED, thank you, it's good to be back. :D

yeah, once I made it to Alabaster, the signal still sounded good, but I was beginning to hear interference from WBYE on the adjacent frequency. Once I passed Alabaster, all that noise was just "too much" and I switched stations. :D

I passed through Jasper today and snagged WIXI loud and clear all through Walker County. Do they have a Spanish music block in the afternoons, by chance? When it first locked on, it was some Regional Mexican-sounding music, but then after a quick bandscan it was commercials in English and then back to classic country. This was around 2pm.

Piping it through the car speakers via my AM stereo Walkman sounded good. No stereo, sadly, but really clean and well processed. They seemed to have a good roster of commercials as well.

WIXI does air some Regional Mexican in the afternoons. It is usually mixed in with the classic country, and then there is also some 70's A/C mixed in with the classic country mix.

all they need now is some soul and gospel then they'd have all bases covered!
