Radio One's WIZF/Cincinnati To Change Frequency
RADIO ONE Urban WIZF (100.9 THE WIZ)/CINCINNATI is scheduled to make a dial change this summer, switching from their current frequency at 100.9 to 101.1. This move is part of an agreement which will accommodate Country WIFE/CONNERSVILLE, IN, which RADIO ONE recently purchased from RODGERS BROADCASTING. WIFE broadcasts on the 100.3 frequency from some 50 miles east of CINCINNATI.

50 miles east of Cincinnati? Wow... last time I had geography Indiana was west of the Queen City. Plus, it appears to me that Connersville is almost due northwest, not just west.

lol

I was thinking the same thing when I read that article. Either the writer of that article isn't a geography whiz or simply cut and pasted the information about the 100.3 move-in with a previous article about WAXZ Georgetown (which actually is 50 miles east of Cincinnati, give or take).

yep, really not that complicated...

There is already a CP for the new 100.3, which radio one has/is in the process of buying. Their current wizf transmitters are Harris Z series, a frequency swap on those is simply changing a few dipswitches on the analog exciter, and a slight adjustment on the HD exciter and pre-corrector. I don't really remember, but for some reason, I think the antenna will take the frequency move, if not, it's a simple matter to change the antenna..if they don't mind being off for a few hours, or can work another deal with CC to use a backup antenna.

Have not really bothered to see just where the antenna is going to be, but the pattern looks like it might be able to fit on most of the established antennas in Cincy. they might even be able to get it on their WIZF site.

So they switch when they are ready with the new format and station, which is R1 is following their usual cookie cutter plan, will be a urban R&B.

ho hum

FCC coordinates map out to the WXIX tower. I believe this tower currently has WUBE, and formerly had 92.5, which now is on the WKRC-TV tower.

radio-locator.com has a pattern map for this, which shows a pattern similar to but better than WIZF, but not as good as WKFS, which is very high on the WKRC tower. (These three are the only class A FM's with antennas near downtown Cincinnati.)

WUBE is on Channel 9's tower.

The WXIX tower holds WRRM and a WMOJ backup. The new 100.3 will be there, and with Channel 19, there's a digital antenna for Oxford's Channel 14.

If I'm not mistaken, WKRQ is also on the Channel 12 tower as well as is WEBN's.

One poster included WKFS in his/her list of three class A stations in Cincinnati. Not trying to be self-righteous or anything, but WKFS is a class B1. You lose it for good about 50 miles out of downtown Cincinnati, better range than a class A but not as good as a class B like WKRQ.Someone mentioned that the new 100.3 might go on the WXIX tower along with channel 14's digital transmitter. Is the part about channel 14 correct? How are they going to be able to get a city grade signal into Oxford then (unless I'm unaware of a power boost or city of license change)? Also, I noted that WIZF is getting a power boost after the move to 101.1 while keeping the same tower height. It's going from 1250 watts to 2500 watts.

I almost forgot.......what's the speculation on format? Between 100.3 and 101.1, I say urban A/C on one and hip-hop on the other. (Is WIZF playing true hip-hop now. I don't live there anymore and never listen when I'm in town visiting family)
