WIZF move imminent

PLEASE tell me they are using "The Jeffersons" theme song when they run that announcement. ;)

There are other moves of other stations that have to coincide with the WIZF move to 101.1 and the move in of 100.3 to Norwood. One included is the Directionalization of WFMG at 101.3 to allow the move of WIZF up a dial spot.

WFMG is not going directional, just downgrading to Class B1 (25kW) instead of Class B (50kW). They've already filed a license to cover their B1 facility. All they have to do is reduce output power on their transmitter to effect the change.

There are no other stations involved except WFMG, WIZF, and WIFE.

I thought WFMG's application had a slight null toward Cincinnati in addition to a downgrade to a class B1 facility. Although, I could be thinking about the original application, which had 101.3's tower relocated to northwestern Wayne county.

What happened to the changes that were to be done in the Louisville area to fulfill the requirements of this move (the stations south of Louisville and the public radio channel allotment in Madison, IN)?

I bet WFMG really loves this - not!

I'd much rather hear WFMG than any Cincinnati station, yet it has to downgrade to make way for yet another Cincinnati move-in. Lovely.

WFMG and WIFE were co-owned stations. WFMG was not "forced" to downgrade. Getting millions of $$ from moving WIFE to Cincy made it worth it. WFMG still will have plenty of signal to cover the Richmond area just fine. They weren't making any $ out of Cincy or Dayton anyway.

I'm not aware of any related applications besides WFMG/WIZF/WIFE, unless someone tried to make a counter-proposal with different allotments.

From the WIZF-FM website:

We're Movin' On Up
100.9 The Wiz is moving up one dial to 101.1. Be the correct caller all weekend long and next week for your chance to flip that switch. No, listen this is not all that we have to offer, get caught by the Wiz Patrol with that dial switched and you have the chance to pick up $101 just for moving up the dial with us. We are doing what has never been done before, we are letting a listener flip that switch. Big Greg will announce on Thursday who is going to flip the switch with Asia on Friday 7-14 @ 10AM. Keep it locked to the station keepin connected with you, we are 100.9, no we are now 101.1 The Wiz, #1 for Hip Hop & R&B!!!

Would love to see gr8oldies or arbitorn win this contest...100.9 as a Cincinnati frequency is no more. When will 100.3 debut?? Keep it tuned......

This is actually a return of 101.1 to the Cincinnati area. I know this frequency was occupied back in the 60s, but I'm not sure if it was licensed to Cincinnati or Erlanger. At some point in the mid- to late 60s the station was shifted down to 100.9, which was in fact licensed to Erlanger. The calls were WKKY before becoming WHKK, which is what they remained until Mortenson sold the station and it became WIZF.

Didn't the WSAI calls land on there sometime in the 80s?

Yes, I completely forgot about that. Help me here. I think WHKK 100.9 picked them up when they were dropped from 1360 for the WWNK-AM calls. And then a very short time later 100.9 WSAI was sold and became WIZF. The WSAI calls then landed in Savannah, GA for a while. I believe on the 1450 frequency down there.

Thanks for jogging my memory a little more.

I remember listening to WKKY in 1966. They had an evening show that played some of the Top-40 of the day, hosted by a DJ named Bob Newhouse. The general manager of the station was Ted Bushelman, who later went on to a position at the Greater Cincinnati Airport, and I guess he is still there.

I don't recall Erlanger being on any frequency other than 100.9. Nor do I recall anything around Cincinnati being on 101.1 back in that era.
