When going up I71 thru Cincinnati, 101's signal gets destroyed on my Sony Xplod. Is it my tuner or the station?? After passing a certain point, everything goes back to normal.

Is this happening near Eden Park/Reading Rd. area?

You're probably driving right under the WKRC tower, which hosts Q102 and ALL of Clear Channel's FM stations. There's a ton of bleedover/intermod from that stick, and it's most likely too strong for your tuner to sift through it. The same thing happens with many of the Cincy stations near Winton/North Bend under the WSTR64 tower (WGRR will find itself on top of any weaker station).

I was going past that WKRC tower and I started picking up a mix of stations on my portable CD player. And it doesn't have a radio. Is there something wrong with the tower or is that normal. I've heard of people picking up WLW on barbed wire fences but...

I remember years ago listening to WBLZ 103.5 and it was unlistenable when approaching Cincinnati from the south on I75 but I could hear it well south of Lexington and well north going toward Columbus. I guess it is better now. Since they dropped CHR, I don't listen to it any more. I don't understand all of the technicals dealing with radio and broadcasting. This thing with WIZF is really bad though. Do they know this is happening I wonder. It will make you put a CD in. My Pioneer Supertuner3 does the same thing as well in my other car.

That stretch of I-71 by both towers has always been a nightmare for car radio reception. Channel 9 and Channel 12 's towers are both there, and over the years many radio station signals have been added and removed and added again. I hate to think what it's like for radio listeners who live near there.

This is typical for any place that's close to a transmitter tower, and that's why in many American cities the towers have been all grouped in one place, hopefully not near anyone, to minimize this kind of interference. Also, depending on the city's terrain, that location would also be the best for signal coverage.

Hello all.

If someone can provide me a more specific location that this is occurring at (ie: mile marker, exit name, under a certain bridge, etc.) and the times and dates that you're experiencing it, I would greatly appreciate it. If it is an interference problem from the WKRC tower's massive amount of FMs, there is not really anything that we can do. But I will still investigate it.

A similar situation is occurring in Dayton right on I-75 around Dryden Rd. Clear Channel has their main stick there with Mix, TUE and Light pretty much taking over the dial in that little stretch. Cincy stations are pretty must toast in that location.

To JB01011, I think these towers are TV towers that are right off of I71 that are causing the problem. It is SEVERE on my Pioneer Supertuner 3 as I pass this area. I leave the radio alone for a while and everything returns to normal. I miss you all at 100.9 as I live 35 miles south of Lexington and could pick it up by nulling WLSK. Also this interference never occured while you were at that frequency. When I travel home down I75, you all have plenty signal but it is jammed by WSGS 101.1 Hazard, KY with 100k mono power. In my opinion the change in frequencies hurt WIZ alot. It is still a top notch station along with WBTF 107.9.
