WIZR 930 SOLD

The now silent WIZR-AM 930, Johnstown has been sold, according to the FCC daily digest on 1-12-10. The buyer is a Thomas J. Kuettel. I ran a google search and found a Schenectady based physician by that name. What plans this person may are yet to be revealed. I have wonder if will be put on the air in Fulton county with 2 other stations in Fulton county namely the well established WENT-1340 and relative new comer WFNY-1440, or move it to another community?

UPDATE: Just found further info that the buyer lives in Worcester, NY, about half way between Binghamton and Albany. Was kind of surprised to see 2 exact names like this. If it were a John Smith, it would be likely. I am willing to bet the 2 are related.

It WILL be interesting to see what he does with it. I can't think of too many viable formats that it could be either... if there are plans for it to be a music station that is. Unless their considering all local info/talk etc.

Their previous format (Timeless) is being shut-down by Citadel. So they can't do that. The competition-- America's Best Music from Dial Global, is already on 1190 Cobelskill. There's plenty of rock, pop & country available too. Only something like Music of Your Life (which 1490 dropped a few ago) would be available. :-\

Unless...(ugh) --- spanish? Religeon? or ..... talk? ???

WIZR was music of your life about 25 to 30 years ago. It had the callsign "WMYL". I might also point out it is still on the air simulcasting WYJB. I think everyone thought it would go back off after being on a few days just to keep the license. It would be difficult for me to imagine WIZR being able to make a go of it in a good economy in Fulton county, with 2 other local licenses scraping to make ends meet. This makes me wonder if it will get moved to another COL.

Yes, last I checked, B-95 was still on there. And I'm sure the others (WENT / WCSS / WFNY / WVTL) have been enjoying a smaller playing field, re; ad dollars.

PAMAL's website is so out of date, Their Glens falls cluster still lists 101.7 was WENU when it is now WNYQ, Their Rutland cluster is not up the date nor is some of the rest of it.

THE_KICKMAN,

I was getting the same web site as DToTheJ until I deleted my temporary files, history, and cookies.

The FCC has now approved the sale of WIZR. Be interesting to see if the new owner leaves it in Johnstown, or applys to move it to another community.

I been following the recent activity or non-activity of WIZR and they now have put up a website:930wizr.com. It looks like there going to a country format along with a local morning host from Amsterdam. Info on site says they are going live on 3/15. Stay tuned.

The website says that it will be "True Country" is a format marketed by Dial Global. It is a mix of todays country and country classics much like real country that BUG country just dropped. I wonder if the new owner will try to do anything about the night time signal (28 watts). Might he apply to put up a 2nd tower, to go directional at night and get a power increase?

Wonder also if they might be eligible for critical hours where they might get a little mor power around sunrise and sunset in the winter months?
