WJAR CELEBRATES 60 YEARS

WJAR has been running promos about turning 60 for a few weeks now. Some of them include past reporters, anchors etc..
Hopefully they'll devote more than 60 seconds to Doug White. And maybe bring back Gary Ley, John Ghiorse to talk about the
big weather events that have happened. I still think they should let Gary Ley do weekend weather.

The actual date the anniversary will be observed is July 10.

Meanwhile, does anyone else think this tie-in is a bit cheesy?

"NBC 10 celebrates its 60th anniversary on July 10, 2009. Are you marking a 60th milestone in July? Maybe it's a 60th wedding anniversary or 60 years since the start of a business. Let us know about it, and we may mention it on NBC 10 News at 5 a.m. or 5 p.m. during July."

I saw ch.7 weather-girl Dylan on recently. Maybe they'll go up to "Ch.10 North" aka Fox-25 and do a few spots with half their former staff.
WJAR turned out some great people in its day. Now only a shell or it's former self, "The Big -O".

I wonder if they'll do anything special on July 10, like launch new graphics (unlikely), a new logo, a new theme (I hope so, I can't stand the Media General music), or go HD? They'll probably just air a half hour special after though.

One big name from WJAR no body mentions is Ted Knight.Yes, that Ted Knight of The fictional WJM NEWS from the Mary Tyler Moore show.Ted Knight was a local personality of channel 10 in the mid 1950's.His other nationaly known credits are "CaddyShack" with Bill Murray and Chevy Chase and his other popular TV show"Too Close for Comfort" with JM J Bullock.
