WJAR- Changes

I use to watch Channel 10 on a regular basis but I have really gotten to dislike Patrice aka Holly Wood. I just don't like her reporting style anymore. I continue to watch NBC 10 but when Patrice is on I watch one of the other stations.

Personally, I'm happy to see people admit they are watching other news outlets...and not only Channel 10. It seems people are Turning Away From 10. (The opposite of the station's motto: Turn to 10). It's about time.

Television gossip website FTVLive reported Friday that WJAR weather guy Gary Ley will now be doing weather during the noon, 5PM, and 6PM newscasts. John Ghiorse will only do the 11PM weather. According to the website's report, the ratings for NBC 10's 11PM newscasts are going down, and evidently moving Gary off of that newscast will help bring the numbers back up.

I have always disliked Channel 10 and have been a loyal viewer of Channel 12. I look at Channels 10 and 12 as the Yankees and Red Sox of local TV news. I love CBS but hate NBC. I would love to see WPRI 12 Eyewitness News become number one. It's long overdue. The presentation is great, the personalities are the best, and I love the Live Pinpoint Dopplar Radar. More power to the big dozen!
______________

Curly: Or a phoney at the mike!

I never liked Patrice Wood. Her personality has always seemed real artificial to me and her delivery style has always seemed like that of a College student who's just entering broadcasting. I know that she has been at the station for a long time... but I have seen Zero improvement from the day she first arrived 20 years ago. I don't mean to seem harsh towards Patrice. She's probably a real sweet person. Unfortunately that does not automaticly make her a good News Anchor. I think she belongs in a much smaller market. Topeka comes to mind.

On the other hand... I feel that Gary Ley is the best Meteorologist in Providence. He has an easy going delivery which makes the viewer feel at ease. I think his forecasts are the best and I also really enjoy his personality.

I am not crazy about the changes NBC 10 has made. I think they are lackluster and haven't brought a lot to the table. Sure they made some changes... but I feel they half assed it. No New Set, Bad music changes and the new graphics arn't anything to write home about. They could have done much better. WJAR still remains my favorite News station due to the fact that I still like most of their Air talent better than the competing stations. However I am beginning to see how they are losing ground to WPRI. It's evident that Channel 12 tries harder and it's starting to show.

Mario and Patrice aren't "reporting", they are reading the news. Both are ok. NBC needs to make a few changes. When they do they will likely regain what they have lost. It's a question of commitment. The station has been a market leader for years with one arm tied behind it's back. NBC let things go as long as they were raking in the cash .

Mario Hilario is also a field reporter. He does go "out in the field" to gather stories. But I do realize the comments above were about Mario's anchoring skills. Patrice does not do general assignment reporting like Mario does.
