WJAR dropping RTV for METV

how long till wmfp follows suit???
I noticed that Hearst Television was also one the groups that signed on for METV National. Locally, that would probably include WCVB-TV (5)/Boston, WMUR-TV (9)/Manchester, NH and WMTW-TV (8)/Poland Spring, ME. As far as I know, all of these stations do not have any "subs" at the present time. This would be a good scenario for METV/National. I would expect WMFP (62) to stay the course with RTV. It's got a pretty good following in the market itself. If WJAR drops RTV, I would not be surprised if WLNE (6) to put it on their own subchannel (either 6.2 or 6.3).

I would think Citadel would want to do something with a subchannel

WJAR is not listed on MeTV's website, nor is WCVB. WMUR is, however.

Just so we're clear on this. Media General is name mentioned here. WJAR has not said anything on it. I am just assuming.I would think WJAR would have to play out the rest of it's contract with RTV or if a deal can made with WLNE next month once the new owners move in.
I'm sure WLNE is status quo with everything until somebody new moves into the corner office

If WJAR was to drop RTV (and you're right, the existing contract would have to end first), then I agree that WLNE would likely pick up RTV since all the other Citadel stations have RTV.

But at the moment, WJAR is not listed on the MeTV website, leading me to believe it is not dropping RTV (yet).

Ok if Citadel stations carry RTV and Media General want METV on thier stations I can see something being worked out that WLNE can finish off the contract so WJAR can air METV.Deals like that are done all the time.

I'm sure that RTV will do fine in the Providence market whether it be on WJAR or WLNE. It's not exactly a "one size fits all" scenario. If WJAR stays with RTV, then more than likely, WLNE would have a crack at METV. Since RTV has some name recognition in the Providence and has had pretty good success with the lineup of shows, maybe WJAR might put METV on their 10.3 in addition to RTV on 10.2 . In this digital age, anything is possible. When the dust (if any) settles, Providence will have two classic TV channels to choose from. What a smorgasbord of classic TV. Very cool! :)

I'm going to assume METV is comming to Providence. With both Media General(WJAR) and COX(the dominating cable company) both signing on to this deal METV will show up somewhere.

I believe WMTW carries The Accuweather Channel on .2

I'm sure if your running RTV you can't run METV or Antenna TV too.The only thing I can see if WJAR went with a third digital channel is a music video channel and I only think there is one they go with. The country music channel that WLVI runs. But I doubt it.

Why not? If you're thinking competition, I know of a full-power TV station that runs Fox on .1, ABC on .2, CW (part-owned by CBS) on .3 and Telemundo (owned by NBC) on .4, giving them a stream from 4 competing companies. If they can do that, I don't understand why a station couldn't run RTV, Me-TV and Antenna TV at the same time.

Here's a little known fact: While OTA DTV channel 10.1 is WJAR and 10.2 is RTV, 10.3 shows up as WWDP, the Shop NBC affiliate located in Norwell, MA formerly on analog channel 46, at least on all of my TV receivers.

That's because WWDP's digital assigment is on channel 10 and WJAR maps to 10 even though they're actually on channel 51.

Someone earlier mentioned that METV would show up somewhere since "Cox" also bought group rights. Cox Broadcasting is a totally different company than Cox Cable. Don't hold your breath if WJAR doesn't start airing it.

WWDP's PSIP generator is not functioning and sending out the correct virtual channel table. This has been going on for close to four months now.

In this market, if there were no PSIP, the channel lineup would look something like this:
WLNE 49.3, WJAR 51.3, WPRI 13.3, WLWC 22.3, WSBE 21.3, WNAC 12.6. WPXQ 17.3
RTV would be on 51.4, CoolTV would be on 13.4, LATV on 22.4, MyRI on 12.7...

Actually, Cox Communications and Cox Television Stations are both parts of Cox Enterprises.
