WJAR - New Graphics Look Cheap!

I was watching the new graphics package yesterday. It is truly horrible. It was especially noticable during the Weather segments. It looks like they are using 1970's Chroma key. Very cheap looking text which looks like something you would see on Cable Access Television. Even their ID Bug looks awful with those stupid lines sticking out the top. I guess they are supposed to fit the time and the temperature in there. But the thermometer must be broken because it's only been showing the time. The graphics look bad, the Music is horrid and they haven't changed the set one bit! I am really disappointed by all this. I expected great things..... and all I'm seeing are things that make me want to change the channel.

What a great idea! Time and temp in the ID. It was sure novel
when WTEV did it in monochrome in 1959! The clock was generally
accurate. The temperature was set manually by the projectionist
who was supposed to read a thermometer and twist three knobs
while peering through a peephole. Sometimes it was accurate
but accurate for downtown New Bedford while the audience was
elsewhere. About 1/4 of the time some of the light bulbs in
the box would burn out right around ID time, leaving the lighting
uneven. Later it got colorized by sticking a DA on the output
of the mini-monochroma camera and feeding it to all three inputs
of a cast-off encoder then twiddling the knobs to make up a new
and unique color for the whole display. Well I remember the
competition among engineers to find the most nauseating shade
of the day! Damn thing was still in service well into the
1970's!

But I guess ideas that wear out get recycled....

I once took something seriously.
And was accused of shoplifting.</P>

Can you please post some stills for those of us outside of the Providence area? I'm curious to see what they've done. Thanks.

Nothing has changed for NBC O&O WVIT-TV channel 30 in New Britain/Hartford.
