WJAR News needs a major makeover

after the ass kicking they got during the November sweeps....maybe the presentation of WJAR's newscast will change for the better...here are my suggestions..

1. Get a new news set...they have had the same old set since the early 90's...it looks so dated with a plastic NBC 10 sign in back of the anchor desk...I would like to see a flat screen TV in back of the anchor desk instead.

2. Fix the producition mistakes during the newscasts...every time I watch it's one technical screw up after another.

3. Stop being lazy and use some graphics over the shoulder of the anchors when they read a story...a head shot of the anchor for the first ten minutes of a newscast is boring

You're right on the set. The st has not changed since they moved to Cranston. As for mistakes I notice hem more on weekends when I guess interns are running the equipment.

I know they just brought back Gary Lea but I'm sure they don't have the money right now.NBC is in last place

what awful storm coverage this morning on WJAR...while the other stations had their main anchors on, WJAR had Brian Crandal anchoring with only one live reporter outside...channel 6 and 12 stayed on all morning long, while WJAR went back to Meet The Press....the worst gaff was at 10:30am when WJAR's Gary Ley did a cut-in with his mic off...took him at least 20 seconds to turn it back on....

WLNE stayed on until 11, very good coverage with John Deluca and Fred Campanga. WPRI also had good coverage with Pete Mangione and Tony Petrarca, as well as Kathyrn Sotnick and Walt Buteau live in the storm. WJAR is just a joke at this point.

Wow! The once-mighty 10 has fallen considerably. Honestly, the latest WJAR reports make it sound like Channel 6 back in the 70's!! :D

My observations regarding snow coverage this weekend. WJAR had Mark Searles on Saturday night. Granted he is the lead meteorologist
now. But he should have stayed on into Sunday morning. So WJAR could run a future promo claiming they had 'full weather team coverage'.
Maybe Mark, had vacation travel plans prohibiting him from working into Sunday. If thats the case, I understand. WJAR management
should use Gary Ley more than RJ Heim. It would be an asset especially during winter storms.

WPRI had TJ Saturday night. With Tony returning for Sunday. Once again, Tony should have been on Saturday into Sunday.
He is 'Chief' meteorologist at WPRI. They blew their shot at a promo claiming 'full weather coverage'. If John Flanders was
still there. More than likely he would have been there for the duration. Along with Tony assisting.

WLNE, got it all right! News anchor, with a full weather staff!! Back during the Blizzard of 2005. WPRI,WLNE,WJAR. Had
their full weather teams in place through the duration of the storm. Maybe some stations should revisit that policy....

WLNE might be in third place, but I'm starting to feel that they are the New place to go for coverage that you can count on!

WLNE had the best storm coverage by far, and has the best news coverage overall even when there is no storm. Their staff is excellent, and if you've ever contacted the station, they are very responsive to viewers comments, to a better extent than WPRI and WJAR. People still turn to WJAR and WPRI out of habit, to which I say to those people, try WLNE, you'll like it!

I have a friend who started wathcing WLNE because he likes the colorful Set. Yeah... maybe not the best reason to switch stations... but it just goes to show you that everyone has their own quirky reasons for choosing what Newscast to watch.

In the overalls, is 10 still the leader? I never thought I'd see the day that 10 would be toppled...at least not in the near future. Maybe 2055. Good job to Channel 12 & while 6 is 3rd, could they start climbing up? As for 10, maybe it'd be best for them to drop NBC & go independent. Isn't some network talking about goiong cable-only? Now that NBC is 5th (according to Radio Business Report/TV Business Report) behind UNIVISION, why should 10 keep it. Sink or swim.

Channel 6 has come along way in the last few months. Just wish Miss Ricci would tone down the eye make-up and lipstick. Reminds me too much of halloween. Although she does a good job as a street reporter and occasional anchor. Steve, I've always liked his weather reporting, is also doing an excellent news job on weekends.

Is'nt networks trying to charge cable/sat subscribers a fee for their network?I think CBS charges .50 per subscriber and FOX is trying to charge a dollar. That's the fued with time warner.
SALES are way down and here comes Pay per network broadcasting.

I don't pay for cable, so the Networks get nothing from me. It's just me and my antenna. I'll pay for cable again when they start airing decent programs again. As it stands.. I refuse to pay for crap.

I think the only time I really watched TV was as a master control operator for Channel 12 in 2002-3. The day they switched everything to the Springfield hub was the day of the fire (Station nightclub). We ran NO breaks that day.
