WJAR Newscast

I just finished watching the noon newscast on NBC10. I was just curious about the set, and the transition to HD.

I was very under whelmed by it. Very. It just seems like they didn't really pay attention to camera shots and lighting.

And what is up with all of the technical glitches? I usually watch WPRI for news. Of course anyone messes up once in a while, but WPRI seems way ahead of WJAR when it comes to the quality of the newscast.

I would think with the amount of time it took for this set build (which is kind of shocking since it only really counts as a set refresh, not a new set) that they did not put more focus into rehearsal.

Very disappointing for the so-called "market leader", it looks as though management really skimped on this, and did it on the cheap.

A few things that bothered me:
* The angle on the anchor shot with the monitor wall is just wrong. It doesn't look right with just the bottom part of the monitors showing. And what is up with a city shot at night on the noon newscast?
* The shot where the weather person was standing at the desk talking to the anchor was very awkward. You could see the inside of the newsroom shot of the anchor desk, and could see the uplighting. Just didn't look right.
* The lighting is not very good. I don't know if Frank always squints, but it looked like the light in his eyes was too bright and he was having issues seeing the prompter. The set should also be lit brighter, and it seems as though the lights aren't properly put in place to provide the right amount of lighting.

Maybe my standards are too high, maybe WJAR's are too low. We will see what WJAR/WNAC does when they upgrade over the summer. My guess is they will do it right.
