Pending FCC approval, Media General will acquire WJAR-TV 10. They have been sold along with WNCN-TV 17 (Raleigh/Durham, NC), WCMH-TV 4 (Columbus, OH) and WVTM-TV 13(Birmingham, AL). Media General will purchase the stations from NBC Universal for approximately $600 million.

Considering the fact that Meredith Veira began her career working for WJAR-TV10 in Providence.....I suppose her move to the TODAY SHOW anchor desk (in September) is sort of like "coming back home?"

Just out of curiosity....how many years did OUTLET BROADCASTING own WJAR? I remember growing up with the station...and later had the pleasure of doing some off-camera voiceovers (along with Art Lake and Jim Mendes) during the early 70s.
But has Outlet always owned Channel 10 prior to the Media General acquisition?

Outlet sold their stations to NBC, but I don't know exactly when that happened...then NBC just sold WJAR (along with the three others) to Media General.
