WJBB AM/FM Haleyville

Thanks to Zach and his awesome Alabama media page, I found out that WJBB FM 92.7 and AM 1230 have been sold by Haleyville Broadcasting to AMS, LLC. Their calls are supposed to change to WWWH after the sale is final.

Since I assume that I was probably the only person on here who actually lives within super fringe listening range, I have to wonder will the format and local news and local sports coverage stay the same... or will this be the beginning of another good ole' small town station moving to bigger but not so much greener pastures?

-Travis

I was wondering about that, myself.

The call sign change was listed in the most recent media bureau action as "pending sale", so I assume the calls won't change until after the sale is consummated. I've never seen a pending change listed like that before. As far as I know both WJBB AM & FM have always had the same calls, so it does seem odd to abandon that heritage for a new branding.

I know the stations cover both Phil Campbell and Hackleburg, which were pretty much decimated by the recent tornado outbreak, and I wonder if the loss of all those businesses had some affect on Haleyville Broadcasting selling out.

Apparently the sale has been consummated... both AM/FM are now listed as WWWH. Listened to the FM today, and they're still playing Country, calling themselves "B93" and id'ing at the TOH as "WWWH FM Haleyville." The AM is still doing Southern Gospel too.

Bad News.... https://www.facebook.com/Paradise92.7#!/Paradise92.7?sk=info

WJBB AM AND FM's heritage formats are leaving as of January 1st... Hit Kickin Country B93 is turning into "Paradise 92.7" and AM 1230 "The Light" is going News-Talk. Yes, I am pissed that another small-town, hometown AM-FM combo is going to be just another piece of history  .... On the bright side, I can fire up the old stereo next week and catch some airchecks of B93 FM...

Merry Christmas,

-Travis

Paradise?? What kind of format would that be? AC??

Merry Christmas to you as well. :)

Looks to be a variety hits type format, if this playlist is any indication.

Was this playlist on their facebook page, website, or is it a syndicated list ?

the playlist is listed on www.HBTV.us . HBTV is a cable (?) channel in Haleyville and that is where I noticed the logo for 3WH, Paradise 92.7 FM. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you will find the information :)

Has anyone been able to find exactly why the stations were sold?

If I had to guess, I'd say it was due to the tornado that hit the area, maybe caused a downturn in advertising. But that's just speculation. I'd love to know what's really going on up there.

I know the original owner of Haleyville broadcasting, John Slatton, passed away a couple years ago. His kids were in charge of Haleyville broadcasting. I've noticed this happen several times over throughout the years, where the one who worked tirelessly to create a great station passes on, and the kids sell it to an outsider, then everything usually goes to hades.... such as with WFMH AM/FM in Cullman, WKLD FM/WCRL AM in Oneonta, and now WJBB AM/FM in Haleyville.

".... and that concludes the local news brought to you on Hit Kickin' Country B-93, WJBB FM, Haaaleyville"
