WJBF TELEVISION PARK BUILDING DEMOLISHED

I just found out that the iconic yellow WJBF Television facility at "Television Park" has been demolished. WJBF and its sister station WAGT moved recently and the building had sat empty for awhile. The local historical society apparently had some say in the building's future and they voted to let it go. This is really sad. Wonder if they saved the wonderful old logo sitting on top? At one time there was a WJBF Radio (AM 1230) but I don't know if it was ever in that building.

Hands down, the most hideous broadcast facility. Ever.

Glad to see it gone.

I did traffic reports for the Masters again this year for Augusta National, and the new building off the Bobby Jones Expressway HAS the old "television park" logo on it. News channel six is in with a couple of stations as well as a strong Digital sub-channel with MY-TV..it is a cool looking old logo.

I am almost sure that WJBF radio which became WBIA in the mid-1950s, was never in the Television Park building.

In the too lazy to work on department, one of these days, I'd like to get a time line on the following events:

fire at WJBF studios in North Augusta
WJBF moves studios to Reynolds Street
WJBF moves transmitter from North Augusta to Beech Island
WRDW-TV moves transmitter from North Augusta to Beech Island
WBBQ moves from 15th Street to old WJBF building in North Augusta

I seem to recall a conversation with Walter B. Robinson, one of the transmitter guys at WJBF, that when they moved the transmitter from the studio to Beech Island, the station was off the air and they physically moved the old Dumont transmitter from North Augusta to Beech Island.

I have no idea how WRDW-TV handled their transmitter move, whether it was a physical move or WRDW-TV bought a new transmitter for the site. I just don't remember.

Two other Augusta questions, when WBBQ went on the air with their FM, was it on the old WJBF tower in North Augusta, or was it moved at some point to the WJBF tower?

Who is in the old WJBF then WBBQ building in North Augusta now?

WBIA's studios were on Walton Way up from MCG. WRDW-AM 1480 operated out of there for awhile & 1230 was actually oldies sometime in the '80s out of a downtown broad street studio...The studios on Walton Way were tore down years ago...
