106 also competes with them with an 80s heavy playlist. If you accept the likelihood that 101 is going to own the holiday audience with just table scraps left over, do you also risk sending some of the listeners you share with 98 back to them by going all Christmas? Now you’ve lost the Christmas battle for all practical purposes, and potentially ceded ground elsewhere.
I mean maybe you can pull a miracle on ice and put a bigger dent into 101 than has been done before. But is it likely? Nah.
Would you risk losing more than you might gain? I think so. If it were my job on the line, those aren’t odds I’d feel good with.
