WJBR sold to VCY???

Yeah. In the even they would do Christmas music under VCY, which I strongly doubt, it would be "O Little Town of Bethlehem". I'd wager "What Child Is This" would be too progressive.

VCY carries an ultra conservative format of music (when they play music) just like BBN but I think their "Music 'til Dawn" late-night block is or was well regarded?

It's kind of weird, but when I visited Philly a while back. I listen to WJBR 99.5 as well as WSTW 93.7 and WPST 94.5 from Trenton. I know they don't target Philly, but I do enjoy listen to these station.

We're now 7 or 8 weeks from Christmas music on the radio. If the WJBR deal hasn't closed by then, I imagine we'll be wringing one more year of yuletide tunes out of 99.5. What would be interesting is if the deal closes during the Christmas format. Could be some interesting headlines there: "Jesus turns off the Christmas music." LOL
That would be one heck of a way to close the curtain on a legendary station. At the very least, I'm sure they will throw some on Christmas tunes before the pending sign off.

Has WJBR announced an end date yet? I saw that in the FCC database, there's a call letter change scheduled for 10/4. That doesn't necessarily mean that the station will flip that day, but it's a decent indicator.

99.5 s former program director started his new gig @ WMGK today so mabye WJBR goes off the air end of September early October

Damn, that's a pretty sure sign they're closing up shop much sooner than I think most of us thought here.

An all request day and bringing back former DJs on Thursday. Take that as you will.
That's the nail in the coffin for sure. Any time a station outside of Podunk takes and actually plays requests (instead of regurgitating the assumedly well-researched library that the masses apparently eat up), the ship has sailed.

WJBR was at times strange, but mostly a very solid AC option. Delawareans will surely just seek up to 101.1, so they're going to be fine. Of course, I feel bad for all the people who put their hearts & souls into making WJBR what it is. It's a weird, awful feeling that is hard to describe.

EDIT: I must say though, Thursday seems weird. So, the deal closes at like 11:59:59 pm on the twenty-eighth day of the month? That doesn't seem odd to anyone else?

May simplify calculation of severance checks based on 4 full weeks of the month... or some other factors that are more easily calculable based on calendar weeks. That's just a guess, and I've never seen a closing done that way as most accounting is by the month.

Maybe they'll do 48 hours of Christmas music on Friday and Saturday, until Jesus takes over at midnight and puts the kibosh on all his birthday songs. If they did--especially if it were commercial-free--I'd probably listen if I were near a radio!

FWIW, WROZ in Lancaster, PA, a station that had a similar experience (AC station being bought by God), signed off at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021. WROZ was very transparent with their listeners about going off the air and did weeks of goodbyes. WJBR seems to be doing it all quieter.

I'm assuming the first "request" WJBR played was just after 9am, when they played Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas Is You."

One of the morning show hosts posted this on their Facebook:

Wednesday October 4th will be an extremely special, and noteworthy show with Deanna and Justin In The Morning on 99.5 WJBR
Wherever you are, please tune in.
