WJBT is now a Class C1

Today, I noticed that WJBT (Callahan, FL) is broadcasting from the Clear Channel transmitter on Hogan Rd. on the Southside of Jacksonville, FL, which was outlined in their construction permit. As a result, they have moved from their tower near Fernandina Beach to the Clear Channel transmitter located on Hogan Rd. on the Southside of Jacksonville. Furthermore, they have increased their power from 50kW to 97kW. However, the city of license for WJBT is still Callahan, FL. Here is a map of the old and new WJBT coverage pattern maps from Radio-Locator:

1) WJBT (old): http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WJBT&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

2) WJBT (CP): http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WJBT&service=FM&status=C&hours=U

thats been on the site for well over a year....i still dont think they are broadcasting off that tower.

Otharadioman seems to be correct. The CC E+M engineers have been busy lately. All the facilities (radio and TV) on the newer candelabra tower were off the air during the early morning hours on Monday, most likely to make the upgrade to 93.3 happen. The stronger 93.3 signal was certainly noticeable to this DX'er! I would speculate that the construction permit for the upgrade took extra time possibly because of the fact that Clear Channel suffered a big lightning hit back in May of 2011 that apparently did considerable damage to their Southside FM antenna facility. Besides the upgrade to 93.3's analog signal, they are now broadcasting an HD-1 and HD-2 signal with increased strength, and after a years absence, WQIK-FM has returned their HD-1 and HD-2 signals to the air! :)

they are actually 98k watts now..they are on a blow torch, 991'..one of the drops say..."Daytona, Welcome to Duval...93.3 the Beat Jams"
