WJCL & WSAV Changed Network Affiliations?

I read on Wikipedia that our ABC affiliate, WJCL, and our NBC affiliate, WSAV, here in Savannah, Georgia switched network affiliations from 1982 to 1988. Does anyone know what the reason was? Also, what did these stations call themselves on-air during this time?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You may want to find a more accurate source of information than Wikipedia, as it is filled with nonsense such as Al Roker being God.
______________

ABC which was leading network at the time wanted VHF affiliates instead of UHF affiliates. Other stations that did this and returned back to their original network NBC.

KOMU-8 and WTLV-12 also switched to ABC from NBC in the 80s, but when NBC gained steam in the mid-late 80's they wanted those stations back as part of their network. In 1988, NBC affiliations came back to KOMU, WTLV, and WSAV.
______________

Wait...Al Roker isn't God? Then who in the hell am I praying too when I play the Lotto?

Hail Al, full of grace...for Roker is with me.

Well, Toby, it seems that in this case Wikipedia is correct (see HDTVJames' reply).

If you want to discuss the off-topic matter of Wikipedia's accuracy, I suggest using the Off The Air board.
______________

So you did go to that site(Since I was the one who put the info there on WSAV and WJCL in the first place). And yes I spend most of my time over at Wikipedia when I'm not on this website.

WJCL became a NBC affil in 1982 when ABC decided to go to WSAV because of the strong ratings it had at the time, but by 1988 WSAV decided to return to NBC, thus resulting in WJCL rejoining ABC.

And to think, Toby critizing my work. BTW I was the one who put the info for WSAV and WJCL on Wikipedia in the first place.

I checked Matt Sittel's TV Guide page. He has the channel
charts for the South Georgia edition going back into the
'80s, and for 1986 he shows WSAV as an NBC affiliate, and
WJCL as ABC. IIRC, WSAV was ABC for only about two years
(1982-84). WTLV Jacksonville, on the other hand, went from
NBC to ABC in 1980, then back to NBC in 1988 when Gannett
bought the station from Harte-Hanks.
