WJDA 1300 tower down?

Is WJDA back on the air? I was hearing a signal with foreign language programming on 1300 when I checked a couple hours ago. The signal obviously seemed weaker than usual. I wonder if this is WJDA on a temporary setup or has a pirate taken over the frequency?

Yup, heard their legal ID @ 1pm and, yes, they’re rather weak up here on the North Shore, too.

But a couple of hours later they were off the air again. It was WAY before sunset. I could see where with the signal already much weaker than usual, they might choose not to stay on at night. But I think it was around 3:00PM when I tuned in and again heard nothing after hearing what sounded to me like Portuguese earlier in the day.

I heard mention of a fire in the marshes off Sea street earlier tonight on the scanner. Maybe whatever they were using to get on the air set the marsh ablaze?

This morning, Wed 9/7/2011, WJDA appeared to be on once again--albeit a lot weaker than it had been on Monday, and THAT was noticeably weaker than WJDA used to be. Maybe they improvised a long-wire for the Monday return and then ran into problems with that. Could they now be using a coat hanger as an antenna? Hint #1, Use a METAL coat hanger; wooden or plastic ones--not so much. Hint #2, Straighten out the metal coat hanger as best you can with your bare hands. You want it to be as close as possible to a straight line. Then position it so that it is as close to vertical as possible ;)

WJDA is indeed back on the air with a 202 foot horizontal wire antenna 20 feet above the ground, running from the transmitter building to a tree. They said they were back on sept 4th as reported here, I guess at full power.

I can assure you, unless they are talking only certain lobes of a DA pattern (away fron northerly), they are NOT anywheres close to full power, night or day! ::)

In N. Reading yesterday late afternoon, was picking up a talk show on 1300. Figured it was prob the
"Capital (Albany) District's talk station"...

Yes, they(WGDJ)’ve been the dominant one during 'JDA’s “difficulties”.
