WJDQ Format Flip

It is always great to hear form you. I am also glad to hear that you are still enjoying the station and Jackson.I have got to get over there and visit for lunch. Take care of yourself ,Brother. OB

Ahhhh, another sweet day in the South? lol! I have to say i think the world of the Doc! From an Alabama/ Mississippi listener... it's cool to hear you somedays Doc. Talkin' about 95Q (now) and V93.5... I like V, the
music blend, presentation, ect... sounds good. (just my opinion)

and 95Q, all i have heard is "The John Tesh Radio Program" (nice show name, eh?) I know everyone has their own opinion on JT, but I like his show. I guess being a nerd i like the tunes and all those quick tidbits. Then again, i like "Deliliah" and her sappy love songs show! LOL

I do think it was the worst decision every in Meridian radio history to turn Q101 into a country station. again,
just me talkin'...

btw... the guy that made the post about WQST and WZQK no longer simulcasting. They aren't.
WQST is syndacted with the Southern Gospel format "The Gospel Station" and WZQK in Brandon retained the
"Real Country" ABC format. The reason for all the "holes" in the programming was technical. It's rolling now, and sure (to the guy that asked) they will be a Brandon station, and no longer have Forest, MS commercials.

see ya!

Ken, I agree with you about V. As for the Tesh show, we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. And there's nothing wrong with Delilah but at least she interacts. Tesh is talking to himself and you can tell. The guy sounds like he knows he's only talking to himself so he's out to stroke his own ego.

As I said earlier, if URB isn't getting paid to run that show, they're getting robbed. It's a four hour commercial. ZZZzzzZZZzzz...

BTW, Ken, I saw your on 19 not long ago when I was driving into Meridian. You may not have recognized me. I got a new job so I had to shave my goatee and I have hair again. ;D Feel free to email me sometime. My addy is radiojonathan (at) gmail (dot) com.

What's going to happen to Dawson McAllister Live on Sunday nights in Meridian? I don't think it's a big deal if Ryan Seacrest AT 40 never comes back on the air in Meridian, but Dawson is such an important community service type show in my opinion for the youth of America. Sure Meridian might not have a big 21-25 crowd, but surely there are plenty of teens who live in Meridian.

Ahhh Kennyboy,

Good to hear kind words from you. Hope you're well in Alabama.....guess you're still there, right? Been a long time since you first keyed a mic on 1010 WMOX. If memory serves me correct, I'm responsible for you not being a rocket scientist or at least Mayor of Whynot, by sidetracking you with dreams of being rich and famous in broadcasting. I would apologize but I know that you've enjoyed the ride and you can still pursue politics in Whynot someday. I remember that you had a radio station (pirate of sorts) at home. Let me know if you're ever over my way....lots of great places to eat.

Broadcasters in Meridian don't care about any listener under 30. Anything below 30 is so underserved, it's not even funny. It's like they don't care that their future listeners aren't being served and are turning to iPods and satellite radio to fill the void. Guess what: They will still use those services in the future and won't be there for "regular" radio later.

BTW, they also think that people in Meridian only listen to country, skynard and hip hop. THat's all you hear on the stations there. It's an absolute joke.

To Jo-nathan,

I'm personally rooting for these stations to succeed and do very well.

WLKO 98.9 FM
WZKR 103.3 FM
WYHL 1450 AM
WNBN 1290 AM
Rejoice Radio Translator at 88.7 FM
WSQH 91.7 FM
Calvary Chapel Translator at 91.3 FM
...And of Course Mr. Ken Michales at Y 104.9 FM and WYLS Gospel 670 AM

I don't expect WMER to ever do that well.  Everytime I checked the ratings, they always manage to stay at the bottom.  I'm amazed that this station is still on the air and broadcasting Southern Gospel.  To God be the Glory for allowing this station to carry on, despite the low ratings they usually get.

I'm glad to see that Christian Radio is booming in Meridian.  Hope every station, that has this format, will do well and win many lost souls to Jesus Christ.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. ...I could careless if WZNJ from Demopolis is succeeding.  That station still bores me to death.  I'm still not impressed with 106.5 ZNJ.  What a joke they are. Bring back Alive 106.5 on Sunday Nights and the Oldies format.  I like that presentation better, than I do this one.

I noticed the brandon commercials. It also sounds like they tweaked the station a little. It sounds much better. BTW. Is the WZQK studios still with WQST in Forest? or has it been moved to Brandon. If so where is it?
How much power is 970 running since they moved the tower? directional or non directional?

RDP: I agree and I'm a big fan of those stations. The Light is a great sounding station but it's targeting soccer moms. Christian CHR (think K Love with a bit more bite to it) could do great, I think. However, no one dares try it because "kids don't have money." That said, I'm not saying that The Light is a bad station, quite the opposite is true and I really hope Ron, Jeff and Pam do well with it (I also listen when I'm able). When I made my comments earlier I was maining meaning the lack of any kind of CHR (secular or Christian) in Meridian. It's sad.

I understand where you're coming from.  It's sad indeed.

With that said, I believe that WAY FM would've experienced awesome and runaway success, had it been located on a more powerful frequency.  Since it wasn't, it didn't stand a chance.

Maybe at some point in the future, your former hometown will get WAY FM again.  I hope they do.  Love their presentation and listen to it, when I visit Montgomery Alabama.

I may not live in Meridian but I'm still glad that Christian Radio is booming in that community. ...I'm also rooting for these station(s) to have continued success and lead many souls to Jesus Christ.

R.D.P. <><

P.S. I know it'll never happen and I'm drinking too much Mountain Dew but I would be stoked and excited if WZNJ in Demopolis were to ditch Urban and give WAY FM and/or K-Love a spot on there.  Oh well...It doesn't hurt to dream.

Ahh, how could I forget WayFM?! I love that station. I applied for a job with the Huntsville station last year. Obviously I got passed but I would have jumped at the chance to work for them. I hope somehow they will return to Meridian someday and, I have to admit, it would be very cool to work with them. I'd even take the trash out for a shot to work for them (yes, I'm serious). :)

I found out yesterday that they are still going to crry DM Live. I find that funny since no young people listen to that station anymore since they're going for the soccer moms now. They lost the under 30 growd to the rhythmics for good.

Fly, the 970 WZQK studio is in Brandon, MS. Not sure of the addy. I could call and ask, but the guy never answers his 60 damn phones.. heh-heh! I have no clue on the pattern.

> I have no clue on the [970 Brandon] pattern.

Not hard, guys, just look it up.

1 kW. Two-tower directional, with the major lobe SE.

Very true DEADELVIS! but, what fun would looking it up be? When, you can ask questions and gossip all day on this board. By the way, what's a "lobe?"

Not any more. The 2 tower DA is gone. They are operating under an STA right now off a single tower. I've seen it. They are planning to go with a single tower ND pattern, but I'm not sure if they'll get the 1kw power level.

Hmmm...

Antenna 101? Directional arrays concentrate signals in particular directions. Those favored directions are referred to as "lobes." The opposite (where the signal is NOT concentrated) is called a "null."

The two-tower in question has a main lobe SE, and a null toward Jackson (though, I am not sure why -- I guess they need to protect someone?).

BTW: I looked up the STA on the station. It's allowed 250W day/22 Watts night (25% of its licensed power, pursuant to Rule). 1 tower, which is listed as 190' tall (and, thus, unlit, I would expect). According to some of the correspondence, for a time the station was operating off a "long wire" (an inexact term -- it was likely a dipole or inverted-L, but, I digress). How quaint.

Very interesting DE. Thanks for the info. I should have taken antenna 101. It's never to late!
