WJDQ Wikipedia Page

If anyone ever wants to do a tribute site, I have tons of pictures from the early days (79-84), including pictures from the original Chunky River Raft Race.

This was the time frame when Q had the following TOH IDs "Broadcasting from studio 1-B, This is WJDQ-FM Meridian...Q101"
another TOH ID I remember from this time frame went along the lines of "Broadcasting everywhere...WJDQ-FM Meridian...Q101". Also Charlie's "Voice Of The New South Q101, WJDQ - Meridian " that made even the worst set of car speakers sound awesome ...LOL !

I remember these TOH ID's like it were yesterday . Always thought each was great ....Just wish I had thought of it 1st at our station . For many ,many years Q101 was at the top of the heap in originality and on -air talent . Thanks for the memories guys !!!

Many years before Charlie Van Dyke, the TOH and sweeper guy on Q101 was John Young. Later was Randy Reeves.

I thought Moses did the original Top Hour on Q.......he came down from the mountain with ten tablets and a reel to reel tape. What a station !

Great job on the site. Brings back so many memories from the old Q.

Just found this page and I remember going to the Q101 studios quite often to visit a couple of friends that worked there. I worked at WBFN/WYKK in Quitman for a while and then moved over to WMYQ in Newton and brought it up from being off the air. I worked there with Mike Pierce for a while. I used to visit with the Bwana and go sit in with Coyote Cooper as he "broadcasted live from the tops of the toenails of the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains". It was always a good time. I saw Wild Bill when he was working in Biloxi/Gulfport and had emailed the Bwana just before he passed away. What a genius he was. What a real funny story is Scott Sheppard used to date a girl...that I ended up married too back in 2001. It was so funny finding out just that we were just 1 degree from each other for all those years.

Beg to differ about Wild Bill Brock...I did my time in radio in Quitman and Newton from 82-86 and distinctly remember Wild Bill Brock being on Q101 then.

I went to the WJDQ Wikipedia page and didn't see any history of the station. Did someone delete all the history info?

Its still there...I have enjoyed this discussion. Q101 was a favorite of mine back in the 80's. As soon as I got my drivers license, I had to call and ask the dj if I could visit the station and watch him broadcast (what a geek i am).

I enjoyed listening to Mike Partridge. BTW, He told me a very interesting story in 2006 (his side of what happened to the station after his father passed).

I believe that there were two Scott Shepherds. Both were announcers, but only one was involved w/technical, engineering type work. The Scott Shepherd that I know is originally from Coffeeville, AL. He worked in Meridian radio for a while, then moved over to WINL "win 98.5" in Linden (later moved to Demopolis). He is now at Citadel Tuscaloosa.
