Hey all -

Those issues have been going on for at least two or three years now. I used to complain every few weeks about it, and then it would occasionally get better. Their talk programming had crept up to a delay of approximately ten minutes a few times in 2023 and 2024 and stayed that way for weeks at a time. I hope someone from IHM is reading this thread and will fix the problem.

Serious question, Cas: to whom did you complain? Baton Rouge's WJBO similarly suffers from overfilled spot breaks, but clearly there ain't nobody home when I try to find an appropriate contact. Shame about WJDX, though, as 62JDX was the inspiration for me getting into radio many years ago.

technically, its not their transmitter thats loose.. its their automation... and more likely too full.. with commercial breaks stuffed too full

Doc -

I was calling their contract engineer in Hattiesburg, but I think that they have someone local to Jackson nowadays.

There are several issues, as far as I can tell. The automation system itself appears to be in a distant location relative to Jackson, and at certain times in 2023 and 2024, the delay/buffer from that site would get so bad that programming was often delayed up to ten minutes from its "live" time. As others have noted above, the local ad breaks are often overfilled or ever under-filled, sometimes by several minutes. There also appears to be a frequently occurring issue with their specialty updates, like sports and traffic - when the entire underlying music bed will play out, followed immediately by the report itself with no mix down. That issue alone has had a huge effect on rejoining network programming late.

Apparently the local advertisers are getting results. From the ownership point of view: this is effective sellable programming. No need to change until revenue falls.

Enjoy !!!

Sorry for the sarcastum. Have you tried to use your phone? iHeart seems to have a goal to do away with OTA and wants you to stream everything. So go along them and figure out a major market station that has the talk you want to hear and listen to that stream. Or there might be a podcast so you can totally skip radio all together.
