WJEE 90.1 FM Bolivar/Canton

I have been trying to keep up with Denny and Marge Hazen's attempt to put on the air WJEE-90.1 FM-Licensed to Bolivar, meant for Canton but with the transmitter located on/near Route 800 Cleveland Avenue S. (East Sparta). They have a current deadline to be up and running by December 10, per the FCC. I just wonder if anyone has heard testing yet. They are already on the air in Carrollton (WJDD 90.9)..I heard this station faintly on my GE Superradio..

I don't know if 90.1 is up yet, but Denny and Marge "program" the radio station as an audio stream on a subchannel of WIVM/39-ex-52. They have the audio going with a character generator.

Or at least they did last time I was within WIVM's signal range with a digital TV...

Something of an update:They were working on the Antenna/transmitter all day yesterday, with the help of WHBC chief engineer Dale Lamm and had the station on the air part of the time..Reports are that the station could be received as far as Akron-Canton Airport. They are working on solutions to rebroadcast the signal from Louisville to Carrollton to East Sparta with the best sound possible.

They had hoped for their tower to be higher, but rental space was prohibitively expensive..They're just focusing on getting on the air and hopefully making improvements later..Marge Hazen did mention in passing about 2 other stations (900, 1520) being off the air and how much of a miracle that they are getting two stations up and running..

And they are still running the audio on WIVM 39.4, etc..

Ah, I missed your comment about the Carrollton station being up. I wonder if WiVM is picking that up off air, or if Denny and Marge are shooting another audio feed to Jackson Township...

Don't quote me on this, but I think they already had a feed to Jackson Township. The station had been Internet only for several years, and was on 39 at the time of channel 52 changeover to digital 39 early this year, even before the Carrollton station came on the air..

Why would someone put a 270 watt station on the air that doesn't get out of the hills of Carroll County?
On paper the East Sparta signal won't reach downtown Canton. Forget about it in Louisville, Massillon, North Canton, Jackson

I can't say much about the Carrollton situation, but tests yesterday indicated the Bolivar licensed/East Sparta located signal went out as far as Akron-Canton airport in a car radio. They wouldnt have done this if they didnt expect to reach most of Canton with their second signal (WJEE). I did call the Hazen offices a bit ago. They are still tweaking the signal and doing last minute setup..They may be on/off today but expect things to be solid by tomorrow night..And I was also told that the signal should be excellent in the Southwest part of Canton..

WJEE can probably hit downtown Canton on a decent car radio, but not much farther north than that.

I wonder if the Hazens could make an offer on WOFN/88.7 Beach City to the Oasis Network folks. That'd give them a decent chunk of Stark County.

Wow, maybe I could finally be heard in Canton, as I do the intro and outro for the program "The Power House," heard Mondays at 1:30 pm on WJDD.

Looking forward to hearing you on that, Cliff:

They're waiting for Temporary test authority from the FCC to come in by later today or tomorrow..

WJEE-90.1 is on now at half power..I can hear it, but not real well..Should be better when they are at full power..
