WJIB 740 in French ????

Turned on WJIB 740 AM this morning before 9 and all I got was a french Canadian ??? station. Montreal, Quebec ?? Don't know.

Turned it on again a little after 9 and it was JIB.

What was that. The French station came in clear as a bell.

I think WJIB runs leased foreign language programming in the morning, thats probably what you heard.

That "clear as a bell" was WJIB. 740 has been airing "Radio France Internationale" news every weekday 7-to-9 AM for the past 7 years... picked up by satellite dish and thru Pot 5 on the board. It is one of the few paid lease-time programs WJIB airs, paid for by the French Government. While ratings dip every weekday morning then, there are though, a lot of school-children whose French teachers assign "740-listening" to the class. Maybe those kids will grow up knowing what AM radio is. :)

The Canadian station that hurts WJIB at night is from Toronto; CHWO (when almost never says call letters), which is in English, and with a similar format to WJIB. - The Montreal French station that bombs in here at night is CKAC-730 from Montreal.
