WJKB-AM Siesta Key?

While doing some Googling for another station, several websites came up with a listing for WJKB-AM licensed to Siesta Key. What is this? An FCC search for WJKB comes up as an AM station in Moncks Corner, SC. Also, to my knowledge there is no AM station licensed to Siesta Key.

Any clue as to what this is?

Rich:
Any idea of frequency?? I could try to get down there and check it out...

I do know that WTMY is on the old WSPB tower on City Island, but that's about the closest I know of...

Don't quote me, but I think that this was an abandoned AM application.....I wanna say the frequency was 780 (which app I know is Mulberry now, if even THAT still exists), but again, speculation.

WKJB is owned and operated by Kirkman Broadcasting, Charleston S.C. with ownership of two other stations in the area, WKJB is a sport's/talk format on 950AM in Charleston, however there is no mention of WKJB on Siesta Key on the Kirkman website.... But everybody posting here is right Siesta key doe's show a listing for a WKJB on Siesta Key so what the story?

Nope sorry I just inverted the call's, sloppy typing on my part, WJKB is still owned by Kirkman....So in otherwords I'm thinking the info still applies.....

So if the app is still on the books, what frequency? Is it on the FCC site?

Thanx Chuck.

WJKB in SC & its ownership apparently have nothing to do with the Siesta Key/Sarasota application. I tried fcc.gov & typed in WJKB and only got the SC info. I typed "DWJKB" (deleted app) but no info.

OMG! That was long ago. I was doing some off and on contract engineering and met one of the principals for lunch. He wasn't looking for any engineering information from me... he was looking for money. I beat a hasty retreat and never heard from him or anything about that application ever since. By the way, happy holidays, all!

The WJKB in question is an expired unbuilt CP (now DWJKB) for a new AM station at Sarasota on 780khz with 250 watts - U; utilizing a DA-2 antenna pattern (facility ID number: 29324). The permittee was J. & K. Broadcasters, Inc. Lagrange, Illinois. The station never began broadcast operations and the construction permit is now null and void as of 07/20/1987. The current WJKB is an AM station operating on 950 khz and licensed to Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Mulberry still exists! :) that said I was surprised that the FCC data base still shows a CP for WXTO; but it looks as though it has been dead in the water since late April 2009 when the FCC said that all the completed studies and info had not been submitted and they (Radio 780 as they call themselves) had 30 days to submit the required info that should have been submitted in the first place. I can't find any correspondence after that date. The company was called Radio 780 and they used a P O Box in San German, Puerto Rico.

Board Op, I think a hasty retreat was a very wise thing to do!

Thanks for the information. The next mystery is who was J & K Broadcasters and why were they interested in Sarasota? The address that was listed to them in LaGrange, IL now belongs to an unrelated company. Apparently J & K applied for 4 stations in the '80s and all 4 were deleted (Hollywood, SC, Pismo Beach, CA, Springfield, OR, and the Sarasota one.) It appears the Springfield one was resurrected and became KKNX licensed to Eugene, OR but the others were never built.

About the Mulberry app----

This was the radio station up for bids on eBay, n'est-ce pas?
