WJLQ "Q-100" switching formats?

What's the LEGITIMATE chance that they DO go after WABB again? 97.5 is as vulnerable as it ever has been - very cookie cutter, no edginess from their jocks, unagressive musically...It's a perfect time for Q to put on a really agressive Top 40 (maybe even a rhythmic?) and give it a good run. Granted, this is Cumulus we're talking about here so who knows if that's even possible

It would make my day for them to go CHR. WABB sucks and Mobile/P-Cola is missing the real flavor CHR radio. But it seems like its not going to happen...but if a miracle happens, what would they call themselves...Im thinking but the names are already taken! CHR Rythmatic would be nice but why oldies? To me, its to small of a small market to have an oldies station. It better not be country or im movin out.

+1

PARTY 100.7 LOL - Hip-Hop, Dance, & Romance (R&B)..... I know.. I'm way off - but it is fun to pretend - The old 95.3 Party - Orlando (WPYO) would work (in my dreams) - Mobile and PCola are 2 party towns with the colleges and beaches.... it actually could work if the cookie cutter bullshit knew any better. I'm hoping for someone to come in and get WABB on their heals. I saw them at the Gulf State Fair and their van looked about 25 years out of date and they were giving away $10 gift cards to shit restaurants.. not to mention their morning show is awful. q-tip is cool though.. but damn.. give that station some competition!! My little internet only radio station (that has no advertising) sounds better than them.

Same "company" that owns the domain "i106hits" now owns "i100hits" as of November 3. Just wonderin y, i mean i...

iThink your are correct... then WABB could copy the Verizon 'droid' spots (the "i doesn't..." series)

I'm convinced it's going to be a Cumulus CHR as "i100", too.

Why?

11:04 am, while the station is still stunting--and that's the logo I see staring at me as I view the Cumulus online radio player.

I was going to respond to something else entirely but I almost missed your threat to move.

Country! Country! Country! We need MORE COUNTRY! :D

It is surprising and at the same time not so surprising that they would return to CHR... WJLQ "Q100" and later "Super Q 100.7" (anyone remember that?) of the old days was a CHR from way back when. After a short stint as "Magic 100.7" in the early '90s (much like the Magic 106 of today), they launched "Arrow 100.7" which was a very popular station from about 1994-2000. Then in 2000 they switched things back to "Q100" which was a full-fledged CHR to compete (I assume) with WABB, but they also had "Star 104" as a CHR doing that as well. Then they morphed both Star 104 and Q100 to more "Hot AC" format, then eventually made Star 104 all '80s before killing it and rolling out "Hot 104" as the direct competitor against WABB.

Every time Cumulus has attempted to take on WABB head on, they have failed... either due to changing the format too early or not being committed to the format. If Hot 104 were still around today in its original form, and Cumulus hadn't taken them to country, I think that they would be in a bona fide war with WABB right now... if you remember, WABB was starting to lose ground to Hot 104 back before Cumulus switched them over to "Kicks."

If Cumulus does in fact go full on CHR against WABB again, and they actually produce a decent product that they stand by and support, then I think they may have something!

Only about 15 minutes now... we shall see!

They're in the midst of a R&B/Urban AC theme in their stunting now. I wish there was such a station listenable all over the coast.

Interesting... they are using the same voice guy that they had for the old Q100.

First song, "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus.

Really? I remember him from of all stations...the previously departed Hot 104.

Imaging sounds good... and no awkward silence or pauses like I have heard on some of the other Cumulus relaunches in the past. I wonder if they kept the same on-air system... which I believe is Simian. Do you think they will bring in any local airstaff?

I agree it sounds tight so far. For a chr you have to have some local on air talent. Especially if they are serious about going after WABB.
