Birmingham WJLX Jasper and WWWH Haleyville

Apparently according to their Facebook page they're "expanding their signal" by acquiring Haleyville's 92.7 WWWH.... I'd almost bet the AM license will be turned in after all the donations to "rebuild" the AM station. Of course, radio in Walker County has for years had a storied past between commercial NCE stations, LPFM's violating FCC rules, and one AM station down in Parrish that supposedly operated intermittently for a decade after the license being deleted...

I'm expecting that this will probably be deleted as it deals in facts (I was there and personally saw this happen) and doesn't speak wonders of the person at the center of all of this controversy but, here goes, anyway:

The really "neat" thing in all of this is that, despite the fact he's always claimed to be the owner, Brett Elmore doesn't own WJLX and was only the general manager. He literally owns these other stations he's now acquiring since his GoFundMe gold bananza came in. I'm with you and I bet he leaves James Don Earley holding the bag in the WJLX situation. He's done this before, in the past. He has a "knack" for walking away from horrors that he creates and starting over "smelling like a rose" by leaving the troubles on someone else who has usually done nothing but try to help him.

You may recall that, when it first went on the air in 2005, Brett Elmore managed WQJJ-LP, also in Jasper. He managed that station for three years. Then, without notifying the owner of anyone else he really was legally required to notify, he suddenly shut-down WQJJ and moved all of their equipment, accounts and everything else into his (newly applied for and granted) WJBE, which is another local NCE owned by Elmore which has not ever been operated as anything but a (100%) commercial station.

The owners of WQJJ were forced to completely rebuild will all new equipment and with the horrible rumor Elmore has spent the last month their circulation that WQJJ was "financially troubled" and "insolvent". (He circulated letters around town, to all of the businesses, advising them to " cease all support of 97.7 The Fox (his branding for WQJJ) immediately" and that, "due to financial problems with WQJJ, we are building a better radio station (WJBE) for the community and WQJJ will be shut down". The owners were never notified until almost two weeks after he did this. He had plenty of time to "borrow" (without permission) all of their equipment and to use it in building WJBE.

Brett Elmore is a true work of art.

Don't forget AM 1010, that had an AOR format for a minute.

I actually tried to buy the ruins of that operation about a dozen years ago. Nobody would pick up the phone and talk to me.
