WJMJ adds HD

Unfortunately, both HD2 and HD3 will be television-on-radio -- simulcasts of audio from EWTN. Here's the release, including news of a new transmitter location:

HARTFORD, Conn. – (October 5, 2018) One of Connecticut’s most popular music stations just dramatically improved the quality of its on-air signal with an upgrade to an HD Radio digital transmitter and a new location for its broadcast antenna. WJMJ features a mix of songs that the station says is, “Music that you can’t hear anywhere else,” along with inspirational messages, local news, weather and sports – including play-by-play coverage of Catholic High School Football games.
Now transmitting from a new antenna tower location in Farmington, CT, the station’s FM stereo signal is better able to penetrate Hartford, its home market. It also fills-in some pockets of unsatisfactory reception caused by terrain that blocked the station’s signal when it was transmitted from the former site in Burlington, CT.
In addition to the location change, an upgrade to a new transmitter broadcasts both the traditional FM signal as well as three digital HD Radio channels. Listeners with HD Radio receivers in their cars, homes or businesses will hear a superior quality sound on HD-1, the channel simultaneously carrying WJMJ’s music and information mix. On the other HD channels, listeners can hear Catholic programming from WJMJ’s affiliate, EWTN, the Eternal Word Television Network. The EWTN programs are in English on WJMJ HD-3 and in Spanish on WJMJ HD-2. This better serves an audience that wants to hear traditional Catholic religious programming and Connecticut’s growing Hispanic population.

It's been on for a week or two now once they lit up the new tower site.

And to have legendary, heritage Radio Hosts/Personalities such as Jerry Kristafer & The Morning Show, Middays with Glen Colligan, Afternoon Drive with "Friendly Floyd" Wright & The Weekend Wakeup Show with Tom Zarecki make this an indescribable & one of a kind radio station!

OMG!!! "Friendly Floyd" worked at WHEB (Portsmouth, NH) back in the mid-to-late 70s....he was a RIOT!
He left there and later re-surfaced at WDRC -- I caught him a couple of times when I visited my wife's relatives in Avon/Simsbury....
Wonder if he still does his "School Lunch Menu" routine.....Classic stuff!!:)

Transmitting from Farmington...is it on Rattlesnake Mountain? If so, how will that affect WRTC-FM 89.3 of Trinity College in Hartford? Won't this move overpower them? Also, will the station still have their translators in Hamden and New Haven?

Does WJMJ still have a classical show at night? From my numerous trips through Connecticut over the years, I recall a delightful program entitled, "Good Evening, Good Music." The host, the late Ivor Hugh (a great Cornish name!), clearly enjoyed his time on the air.

HD on WJMJ? I'm sure their donors must be thrilled that their donations are going towards dying technology.

Says the radio expert. While it isn't radios savior, its not dying.

Not sure about an in-house classical show, but they carry a few hours of Beethoven Network late at night.

No. School Lunch Menu was strictly a WHEB thing. Many small markets did school lunch menus in the 70s, but I believe none of the Hartford or New Haven stations did. Floyd Wright has been on CT stations since the late 70s.
