WJMJ - What's the allure?

I might be alone in this line of thinking, but does anyone else find if strange that former professional broadcasters keep gravitating to
WJMJ, the non-profit Catholic station at 88.9 FM?
How does the Archdiocese of Hartford (station owners) afford to pay a big-name staff and maintain the studios in Prospect, the STL and different transmitter sites?
Donations, I assume.
Is the air staff vetted to make sure their lifestyles are in keeping with church doctrine? I'm not being facetious, I am seriously asking this.
The situation keeps getting weirder, with Floyd Wright assuming afternoon duties last week, following Jerry Kristaffer and Dave Nagel, and just before The Lich takes the controls at 3 p.m.

The WJMJ format is not listenable for me - I can't take old standards mixed in with unoffensive pop music. But that's just me.

What classifies as unoffensive pop music. To me if it is bad it is offensive. And most of it sucks.

I kinda like it!!Its not the old WDRC but it plays a variety of oldies that you just don't hear on the FM dial much anymore. Its nice to hear the old radio giants like Frank,Tony,Dino and others mixed in with the usual oldie favorites and you cant beat the DJ's.

The Catholic Church, or The Holy See, is the world's largest corporation with over 2 BILLION members. It owns 1/4 of all real estate. They ain't hurting for money. I was up there the other week, Fr. John's studio remains locked and unused for 6 days a week, as he hates things to go missing.... It seats a host at a nice board and 5 or 6 guests, all with mics and headphones and architecturally designed consoles and seating.

Interesting. Begs the question about why local parishes continually beg for money. As far as WJMJ, it still makes me nervous when the church dabbles in secular stuff like pop format broadcasting. To each his own opinion. Rock on, Father John.

My father was a big DRC listener and has now made the switch to WJMJ. I was in the area over the holiday and the station sounded surprisingly good. I could do without the religious stuff, but the music sounded good.

Where is their transmitter located? I always thought it was on Avon Mountain but looking at the coverage map it looks like it is in Burlington or Harwinton.
