WJMK joins WUSN and WNUA with seperate HD2 programming. No jocks on it yet. It's just a simulcast of the Internet stream.

Tomorrow is the two-month anniversary of WJMK`s Hi-"JACK"-ing.
I bet, on the morning of June 3rd, 2005, Paul Perry, Greg Brown,
Fred Winston and Dick Biondi never imagined that they`d spend the
summer of 2005 off mike? Seems like a tremendous waste of great
talent on the part of Infinity Broadcasting?

Is that the reason why the regular signal seems a tad bit weaker then usual or am I hallucinating? Anybody know where I can get a radio (For home listening) that get WJMK HD2?<P ID="signature">______________

You have to realize that the HD signals don't cover the same area as the analog signal. Jeremy, I don't think where you are you would get the HD signal for WJMK. You'd have to be closer to Chicago to be able to hear it. If you bought an HD radio, which I think would be an ENTIRE waste of money, the only station you would probably hear in HD would be 94.5 WKTI.

:)

Both WKTI and WJMK's regular FM signals are the same here. Normally, WJMK is the strongest of all the Chicago stations. So I probably wouldn't be able to get any if thats the case. But I spend a lot of time in Gurnee and Highland Park so I could always listen there. On my signal strengh meter (1-7) WKTI goes up to 7 and WJMK goes up to 5

When I go through Kenosha and Racine, Chicago stations tend to be weak because it's fringe coverage through that area, especially Racine County for Chicago stations. While I haven't heard if analog will be shutoff on radio, but if it does happen and the shorter distance stays, you can expect more frequencies to open up in outlining areas. For where I live, All Chicago city grade Class B stations are in primary coverage. For suburban stations, WPWX is primary, WSRB is now primary after the upgrade, and WRZA is on the edge of primary & secondary, and at this time of the year, WHFB interferes big time. For secondary coverage, I get WMBI-FM, WONU, WBEW,WHLP, WYCA, WZVN, WXRD, WLJE, & WLEY. I would have no idea how HD radio would be with distant stations.

I have an HD Radio, and have been able to pull out WJMKs HD signal west of Racine. I am also able to get WBBM -AM HD IN Milwaukee.

In Milwaukee itself, WKTI is there but so is 1640 Radio Disney, and we just turned up WQBW (The Brew) and WKKV.

HD reception is not as good as analog. For example, up here in Wisconsin, WJMK comes the best out of all the Chicago stations. But you seem to need a little extra signal to get the HD CODEC to kick in. By around Kenosha you should see decent HD reception.

With AM, here in Milwaukee, the HD Radio "light" lights up for 1690 and 1200 even though they are barely listenable (no HD audio however). WBBM-AM is pretty decent with HD coverage, though power lines and over passes will take out the HD signal. No real surprise there.

In case you havent heard AM HD Radio, it is quite amazing. Every person I have demoed it, their jaw drops to the ground. Radio Disney has some pretty decent audio in HD.

You have an HD Radio, but in the car right? If I recall correctly...Jeremy pointed out that he was looking for one for home listening. Usually the car radios have better reception than most of the home radios, unless you have a pretty good setup.

When did you turn up WQBW and WKKV?

You also have to put in to account that if you are close enough to the towers the adjacent frequencies on the IBOC stations will be unusable. When I made a trip to Chicago, I could hear IBOC hash on the first adjacent frequencies up to around 60 miles out. When stations start using IBOC here, I'll lose quite a bit of stations that I listen to and I'm not looking forward to it.

The Home stereo units are real exspensive. I would just take a car stereo with RCA outs and work with it that way. The Radiosophy unit even has a optical output.

July 1st the stations went on line. Nothing like bringing up two at once.
