WJMK - Oldies Online

I too miss the "Old" JMK and think Infinity has made a critical mistake. If their excuse was age of the demos -- seems to me like their sellers needed to learn how to sell those demos better and maybe at a much different level than with the 25 y/o time-buyer!
But, my real question is this . . . has anyone really listened to WJMK online? They have told us the personalities will be there but while I have only listened a few hours myself, I've yet to hear one! They do have a message posted about checking back later to see what time the personalities will be on -- it should probably just say "when they will be on." Until then, what I've heard is just a lifeless mix of great music -- NOT the total package of a station tho!
Interestingly their "Loyal Listerns Club" (that's a joke, right?) file sports the "Oldies 104.3" logo. Guess they don't have a problem with the "oldies" image now.
In the meantime, I just turn Jack-out!

I suspect there are union-management things that have to be worked out before the actual personalities begin to appear. Also my guess would be none of the personalities want to lock into the internet streaming and then see 'nine' or 'zone' or somebody go oldies and they are left out. I suspect people like Biondi and Winston would prefer to be on the radio if possible. I spoke with one of the on air staffers (who was operating jack) and he said he fully expects a station to flip to oldies within 30 days....of course this same guy had no clue about jack so its all speculation

The WJMK personalities may be stuck working only for Infinity for the duration of their contracts. If one looks at all of the Infinity stations in total, WCKG is pretty much in disarray right now. It's unlikely CKG will change to oldies since it brings in a younger demographic.

Oldies with real jocks and commercials will likely at some point be on 104.3 IBOC and the Internet stream. No evidence of the jocks being on the stream as of yet. The great minds at Infinity theorize that people will be moved to buy digital receivers to pick up the HD version of oldies 104.3.

I believe Infinity would be better served placing an underground type format catering to a younger demo on IBOC rather than oldies geared to the 40s plus demo. The younger demo is likely to spur the growth in digital radio much like the late 60's & early 70's with rock underground and FM radio.

The Zone appears to be having some success in recent months. I doubt it will switch. Nine just doesn't cover the entire area north of central Chicago. Since reception is poor in Chicago proper, people will not listen.

Not unless their contracts have a loophole and Infinity buys them out. I can't see them paying them all that money and if HD & the net stream don't take off.

Very true. Excellent observation.

All in the bottom line. If they can get away billing more, no format is sacred. But this is ABC/Disney after all.<P ID="signature">______________
