WJMN is corny

Jamn plays corny music with little to no rap. It may as well be a dance station. The only reason Jamn is number one is becasue it has a monopoly on the "format." If any full power station came along it'd defintely give JAMN a run for its money in all dayparts outside of mornings, assuming of course that station wasn't afraid to play rap.

Soft and safe rap for the tough street kids from Weston.

This is what Jam'n played on Thursday night, 1/25/07, from 7 to 8 p.m.:

Snoop Doggy Dogg - That's That (expletive) - rap
Chris Brown - Poppin' - rap
Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot - rap
Jim Jones - We Fly High - rap
Fat Joe - Make It Rain - rap
Omarion - Ice Box - rap
Lloyd - You - rap
Pretty Ricky - Grind With Me - rap
Baby Boy Da Prince - The Way I Live - rap
Akon - I Wanna (expletive) You - rap
Young Jeezy - Go Getta - rap

This is dance music, huh? Maybe not all of it is gangbanger music that you hear in certain unnamed parts of Boston, but plenty of it is. I once had my 15-year-old niece grounded by her mom (my sister) for listening to Jam'n 94-5 for 3 months - until the next song was from Green Day, or Godsmack, or Nickelback, or one of those other grunge groups. (I was given a slap by both my niece and my sister.) I was shocked to hear rap on Kiss 108, especially since I thought it was banned from the station because Kiss had to keep the rock and pop separated from Jan'n's rap (and vice versa) so that they wouldn't step on each other's toes.

The obvious question: is there a station that will play some decent rap around here (i.e. "Rapper's Delight" - Sugarhill Gang, "The Breaks" - Kurtis Blow, "The Message" and "White Lines" from new Hall of Famer Grandmaster Flash)? And no, I'm NOT holding my breath! :D

I think to JAM'N has Rapper's Delight and a lot of Grandmaster Flash on its HD channel, which if I recall is "old school."

Not that I have an HD radio though. I'm gonna wait til the price comes down or HD goes the way of AM Stereo.

JAMN, by industry definition, is a CHR/Rhythmic, NOT an Urban station. Generally, you'd hear more rap on an Urban than a CHR/R.

The reason they are #1 is because they play what the market wants. I don't think an Urban would be able to pull the cume that JAMN pulls in Boston.

hey hey...watch it smoke...I live in weston...watch where you point your fingers my friend

THANK YOU! IT IS A "Churban", A CHR, that reports as a CHR, that targets a CHR audience, that sounds like a CHR in terms of presentation, so stop complaining that they're not banging the hottest underground, unsigned, mix tape jammies, yo!.

You are also correct that an Urban (even if it were a GOOD ONE) would not have pulled the sort of cume Jamn does in lilly white, Boston as was proven with the failure of WBOT to succeed then again they were abad stick, but very poorly executed on air on so many levels. Given jamn's ratings and revenue for the past ten years, I doubt the opinion of any of you rap autorities means a thing to anyone there. BrooklynDon's constant mantra that "Jamn is corny" makes me laugh becuase Jamn is one of the most successful stations of it's kind in the countryratings and revenue wise, what other standard is there?> IF jamn is so corny why did WQHT HOt 97, Market number one, New York, New York, unquestionably the biggest and most influential hip hop station in the world, try so hard to hire Cadillac Jack to program them?.he turned THEM down. Oh that's right Hot 97 plays P.diddy so they're not "hip hop". BrooklynDon is the quintessential no experience possessing, know it all, who finds fault with any station that doesn't program that highly coveted format known as the wannabe hipster, it's cool because they play it in urban outfitters, or I heard it in a dive bar in Williamsburg Brooklyn, puke, he's loaded onto his ipod. He likes it so obviously THAT is what everyone wants to hear.

All this being forced to roll my eyes at the idiocy on this board has given me huge migraine.

::)

Snoop Doggy Dogg - That's That (expletive) - rap - R&G
Chris Brown - Poppin' - rap - deep R&B
Mims - This Is Why I'm Hot - rap yeah that's rap
Jim Jones - We Fly High - rap also rap (ballin)
Fat Joe - Make It Rain - rap - yes its rap
Omarion - Ice Box - rap - slow down r&b
Lloyd - You - rap smooth r&b
Pretty Ricky - Grind With Me - rap (R&B)
Baby Boy Da Prince - The Way I Live - rap
Akon - I Wanna (expletive) You - rap (R&B)
Young Jeezy - Go Getta - rap

so of 11 songs 4 were legit rap, and one was an R. Kelly song with snoop rapping for one verse which appeared on snoops album.

How is this music supposed to appeal to young white males?

So what? THEY'RE NOT A RAP STATION!!!!!!! How is this music supposed to appeal to young white males? so what if 4 songs in your mind are "legit rap"...So you're trying to say that Rap is the only thing that appeals to young white males?, dumb. You're also forgetting that Jamn's core audience is FEMALE (persons) between the ages of 18-34, they're not programming to appeal to young white males, it just happens to be an unexpected benefit. Dude you have to get it out of your head that you're any indication of what regular listeners think. You're the same guy who was on another board bitching that there was not a "funk" station in New York. Like there is such a thing? not that Ive ever been aware of. Im sure then we would be here while you debate what is and what is not "funk". "Oh Bootsy Collins isn't funk he's too old, Jamiriqui is funk" Oh god I can feel the headache coming already!. You have to learn youngster that just because YOU think it, does not mean the rest of the world thinks the same way. In fact most of them dont.

HA all up in your bubble! ;) Schooled your silly ass again, check yo head foo! HOLLA!. :p

Im on your side Brooklyn . Jamn is a corn dog station . If a station like Hot 93.7 in Ct came to Boston...Jamn will have to get a tune up or Jamn ratings will drop.. like its Hot . WBOT would had done great , if Uncle Radio One did not own WBOT . Look How Radio One is Trashing The Late Great 100.3 The Beat in LA ..This station used to be a great Urban station and one of the Top Billing stations in America, Now this station is garbage . WJMN used to be even worse than they are now..Before WBOT sign on..WJMN used to mix kiddy rap with Ace of Base and crappy boy band music, YUCK ! ( Thank god WBOT made WJMN clean up there playlist )

Better and good are relative terms...what's "good" or "better" to one is not always "good" or "better" to the other. NSYNC's "No Strings Attached " and "Celebrity" sold 2.4 and 1.8 million copies respectively in their first weeks on sale. JT's albums didn't do that. So what would you say is "better"? Their albums NSYNC and the aforementioned No Strings Attached have sold 10 and 11 million copies each. Those totals are a LOT greater than anything JT has sold.

KISS and JAMN had different rolls during that time, too. As time has gone on, the stations have evolved into what you have now, in part because of the PD's (Ivey leaving) and in part because that's how the formats have evolved...but, WBOT had LITTLE to do with it...ratings and revenue and co-existing with KISS is what JAMN is all about.

By the way, my brain is awake...I am not the one living in the dreamworld that you live in...you know, the one where JAMN is cut down by an Urban station...is it warm in that world today? Maybe you should wake your brain up :)

Another corny JAMN Fan . Its to bad that WWKX is on a weak signal and dont pay and give out alot stickers like corny 94.5 . WWKX Playlist is alot better than JAMN . O WHAT THE HELL ! IF I GOT A CHANCE TO WIN MONEY...I WILL WEAR 94.5 , CORNY STICKERS AND LISTEN TO CORNY 94.5, To WIn MONEY . 10 songs all day long..Only on JAMN 94.5.. WJMN Boston . One for JAMN Mixer think JAMN Playlist S/cks . I was Listening to JAMN Mix Show ( Few Saturdays ago ) near 3 am , and the Mix DJ said " Sorry folks, Its Time to go back to regular Radio " AKA No NEW MUSiC will be Played , Its time to play the same 10 songs , again and again and again . JAMN Weekend Mix Shows, is Hot . JAMN Sunday night Launch Pad Show, is Hot . WJMN Daily Playlist ,is NOT !

It just KILLS you that JAMN is successful, huh? That's too funny. I love how you even mock the marketing campaign with the stickers, yet say you will participate to win...THAT'S exactly what they want!! Their P1's will listen and try to win...maybe even their P2's...but if they can get people who aren't familiar with the station (or in your case, don't like the station) to listen for a chance to win something, they have built cume...which is their goal!

You also proved my point that I was trying to make about "better" and "great" being relative terms when you brought up "Ice, Ice Baby." That song did sell "better" than a lot of other hip-hop songs...but does it make it "better" than those songs? That question is left open to interpretation or opinion...like most of your comments on this board (JT solo is BETTER than NSYNC...WWKX' playlist is BETTER than JAMN's, etc).

It's funny, I look at a post by you the same way you look at JAMN...the same complaint over and over again without facts to back it up...hahaha!!

Yep ! Thats the way you win listeners . You Pay them . Listen to the same old songs over and over again and wait to see what time to call in to win cash . CORNY , But Whatever works . JAMN Daily Playlist still S/cks ! I Only listen to Jamn Only Friday and Saturday Night Mix shows and Sunday Night Launch Pad show .During the week , My Dial stay on WWKX or College Radio or some of these great Pirate radio stations Around The Boston Area . STOP SNITCHING ! FCC SHUTDOWN NOTHING ! BOSTON " WHERE PIRATE RADIO LIVE 4 EVER "!

It's all crap to me. Hip hop just puts foul lyrics over samples of music a previous generation made.
