Avg. Hip Hop Station is still No. 1, in Boston Boring 12 plus Radio Ratings ( Good Ratings for Kiss and WEEI ) .

With no competition whatsoever it will probably continue to be. Not sure why someone doesn't try to get a piece of the pie. I'm sure someone will eventually hop on this. And don't give me the ownership thing because I really do believe any radio station format could be programmed with the right people involved.

Do you really think the Boston market can support 2 hip hop formats? I think not. It's been tried, and it failed.

It failed because of a lack of promotion. When did you ever see Hot 97.7 at Fenway, or the Garden, or even for a hip-hop night at the Roxy?

Read the entertainment forums on barstoolsports.com/bb. Site is full of white males closer to 30 than to 20 who love urban music. Give them a presentation that speaks to them (no jocks screaming urban slang, but actually speaking like adults), and they'll have a license to print money.

If anyone does Hip Hop it would be CBS Radio. They do great with the fromat. Take a look at Hot 93.7 Hartford, CT; Power 98 Charlotte, NC; WPGC 95.5 Washington, D.C. As for where to put the format on in Boston would be what station to blow up. I wouldn't touch WBCN or classic rock WZLX. I guess either WBMX or WODS would have to get the format. So either Hot AC or Classic Hits would leave the Boston market. Im going to go with WBMX taking the format. How about Hot 98.5 "Blazin 18 Jamz In A Row" Boston's Hottest News Since The Red Sox Won The World Series In 2007 & 2004

They will not blow up 'BMX or 'ODS.

What format was X-105.7 in Baltimore?

And for "kms575" why wouldn't they blow up BMX or ODS? Someone needs to compete with Jamin', Entercom won't do it.

If CBS felt it was "needed", they would be doing it. WODS and WBMX probably bill well enough so that they wouldn't want to blow either one up to chance an uphill battle competing with an established format leader.

It should be on 97.7. Entercom, however, thinks that it's still 1988, and that rock is more relevant than hip-hop.

No, they think they can make more MONEY with Rock. If 97.7 was making money as an Urban, the format would still be there.

WBMX and WODS are both successful formats that have been around for years. Just because they may not be at the top of the 12+ ratings does not mean they don't both bill extremely well. 103.3, in particular, would cause an outrage if flipped to urban.

The urban format is waning anyway.

Which comes down to the bottom line: Boston radio will continue to be boring, predictable and uninspired. :/

97.7 wasn't making money because it was Urban, it wasn't making money because it was owned by Radio One. Your argument would be more sound if Entercom actually tried to use their resources to make a second Rhythmic/Urban station work in Boston.

That's all a matter of opinion though. Some people (myself included, to some degree) believe that urban is boring, predictable and uninspired.

My point was that it isn't Entercom thinking rock is more relevant, circa 1988; they own Rhythmic & Urbans in other markets. They thought/think they can make more money on this stick with AAF than an Urban product. If it was a viable format on that stick for Entercom, it would've stayed on the air.

Sure I wouldn't want to flip WODS either. CBS likes doing the classic hit format. They brought back WCBS-FM and in Orlando, FL they just flipped a rock station to classic hits as Sunny 105.9.

Entercom should of done it when they flipped Star 93.7. After Star they should of went CHR/Rhythmic instead of Mike-FM. As its now I would move Mike-FM to 97.7 FM.

93.7 The Beat (would call it Hot 93.7 but people driving from Hartford would be confused) also when driving from CT to Boston, MA people wouldn't have to flip the station if they had on 93.7
97.7 Mike-FM

Mike FM is staying put, as long as they keep on getting Top 10 ratings in the 25-54 Demo.

Urban AC can be quite inspiring, anyone remember 1150 The Touch? I heard that it did better than WILD's local signal!

It did, with no promotion whatsoever. 1150 The Touch's (relative) success was one reason that WILD changed from Urban Contemporary to Urban AC/Classic Soul back then.
