I forget about WQUL, their signal doesn't seem to get that far. I was in Woodruff this past weekend and noticed the translator was in mono to help the signal. I only got static on 95.9. In Woodruff I could get 103.3, 104.5, 98.5, and 99.5 clearly in addition to the other regulars. 96.3 was shaky.Wow listening in Woodruff today, a station got their TOH ID a bit wrong.
"101.7 WQUL Woodruff / Spartanburg"
"W269 Woodruff"
Should be W269DM
Also nice to note WQUL also used to be on 95.9 in Woodruff a few years ago before switching to 101.7
but currently in Woodruff 95.9 (for the past year or so) has been playing a simulcast of His Radio WLFJ 89.3, not sure where its coming from but its only heard around parts of Woodruff on 95.9....
WLFJ 89.3 Already has a good signal in Woodruff.
Very rarely thru static can Earth FM 95.9 be heard up this way, that signal barely makes it into and past Fountain Inn, 103.3 has a great signal in Woodruff as well.
103.3 benefits from height for sure, honestly their biggest problem is interference from 103.1 WHQA if you're fairly far south or west of downtown Greenville. I can't even get 95.9 very clearly in areas like far west Greenville. It starts to come in around Powdersville but is weak. It doesn't get out nearly as far as 103.3 and they're both class A's, but again 103.3 has height.
I often forget how much stronger the signals for the GSP translators 94.9, 96.9, 98.5 and 99.5 are. 99.5 is probably the clearest. I often find myself comparing regular translators to them and always remember those stations are running at or almost at 250 watts and have great height so they're way better than the average translator.
I agree about having two Fox Sports affiliates, 104.9 comes in fine in Spartanburg and unless WSPG has a lot of local programming, it's very redundant. Audacy also has The Fan on 950/93.7 HD2/97.1 in Spartanburg which seems to be the sports talk winner so far, WCCP has a simulcast in Spartanburg on the translator at 97.5 in addition to their main 105.5 but they don't subscribe so not too sure how they do. Likely not too bad considering they're the flagship for Clemson, are mostly local and have a lot of ties to the Upstate. Still don't think the market can handle 3 sports talk stations long term as it's never done extremely well.
