Country never amounted to much on the AMs. They were REALLY country. Format never had numbers until
MISS103 came on July 3rd 1981.
When I was a kid we used to call it "Hillbilly" music. My mother used to listen to Farmer Jim and of course Bob and Al on WSLI 930 which was right beside WRKN 970. Occasionally the cheap kitchen radio would accidently get moved to 970 and my mom would always say "Who put that old Hillbilly station on?" Everyone on the hillbilly stations always sounded nasel and had thick southern accents, which we used to hate, but now I kinda miss it. Used to get a big kick out of Roy Harris doing the local commercials. Especially Dotty Whites place of bidness under the 3 legged water tank in good old Pokeville. Mrs Harris was also a hoot. Met them once, nice people.
