WJR downs Dr. Laura

Since Dr. Laura Schlessinger is going to satellite radio after the end of the year, I've been listening to her show on AM 760 since November. I haven't listened in years, and was doing so now simply because it'll be my last chance to hear her as I'm not interested in pay-radio. However, over the past couple of days, she has not been on. One of the news announcers at 11pm mentioned that ... whenever Dr. Laura has a day off, this other woman doctor is on locally. Is Dr. Laura off of the station for good now? Anybody have and explanation? I do enjoy her show, and it just fell of my radar after it left my market.

Dr. Laura's still listing on both WJR's website, and on their program schedule (and that's updated with great frequency).

I personally expect WJR to clear the bland-o John Batchelor after her show ends. They SHOULDN'T, but they probably will.

I don't know about the satellite infomercial angle. She hasn't mentioned it as far as I've heard, only saying big things are coming in 2011. There is a good chance that a lot of ordinary listeners have no idea that her show is going to become a satellite-only venture in a few weeks. They don't follow radio news like we do.

Actually she has been making it very, very clear for a month now that she is moving to Sirius XM in January.
As the previous poster mentioned, many of her affiliates have already dropped her because the show was
becoming a month-long infomercial for Sirius. I have noticed her on WJR still late at night, but some nights
replaced by another female psychologist/relationship host. Not sure if that person was local or syndicated,
but she was not very good.

Personally I have my suspicions that the whole "N" word controversy was ginned up to allow
her to jump for the big bucks while at the same time making herself out to be a victim.

While her show was down in ratings from its peak, it still was a good draw. In this time slot I heard her maybe once a week on my way home the nights when I work until midnight.

While she's not going to get nearly the money that Howard Stern has from satellite radio she'll make a nice living and Siruis/XM will get at least some new subscriber's from this move.

As we're rounding the curve and heading for home on "The Dr. Laura Schlessinger Show", I'm glad that WJR has put her back on. I'll mention that I enjoy some of their clever little spoken sweeps as they go back into her show after a commercial break. Lines like "Dr. Laura will see you now on WJR", a funny one about us, the listeners, being on her doctor's office couch, and one about the kinds of problems she'll solve. They are done tongue-in-cheek and are cute.

Dr. Laura's off WJR's schedule as of this week.

Interestingly, Dr. Dean Edell is being plugged in that timeslot, in - oddly enough - back to back hours (it's only a one-hour program). But IIRC, he's soon set to retire from radio as well... caused by flagship station KGO/SF recently demoting his show to the weekends.
