WJR on FM? It's already here.

Now yes, I am talking about 97.1 The Ticket. And I also know you may be thinking, where are you going with this? Well here's the deal. In spite of their title as a Sports station, this station(97.1 The Ticket) when they break away from sports, handles its self decently when talking about non sports issues. As I type this, there's discussion about the murder case in West Bloomfield. Also, I give them credit for getting many view points when they talk about Detroit(Regardless if I agree with it or not). If WJR lost their syndication shows, they would likely try to add more live shows, talk about issues in and around Detroit and more(ie, what 97.1 The Ticket does now). This isn't a shill for the station, Just a thought. Your thoughts?

Yes - agreed - I like it when WXYT discusses local Detroit area topics / goings-on. It is something that I wish WJR would have gone back to. There is a wealth of interesting items going-on in our region to generate interesting listening (Detroit EM manager, city council dis-function, city/county government corruption, Belle Isle, public transportation.....). I would listen even if they re-broadcast local morning shows in the evening.

I used to listen to the David Newman show on WJR - it was really interesting radio. We need more of that. The best stations around the country focus on local shows for their listeners (WBZ, KFI, WGN, previously KGO).

Those stations that you named just don't have local shows, almost all of those stations are live and local around the clock(especially WGN). That could also be why WWJ does well to tremendous(see last few books) in the ratings. With exception to airing 60 Minutes, they are live and local around the clock.
