WJRB 1490 format, WQSA 1220 FORMAT QUESTION.

Hey Guys:

Can anybody tell me what format was on WJRB 1490 from 1992 to 1994?
Also would anybody know if WQSA 1220 went to Music of your life from talk in 1986 or 1989?

Thanks for your help on these questions!!

I remember WJRB very well, not only from listening to it back then, but also from still having an unscoped aircheck of them from 1992. They were "adult standards" although not quite as old as WGUL was at that time. WJRB mainly focused on non-rock '50s and early '60s while WGUL was still playing big-band/swing. It was a great sounding mix. I believe Grant Hudson as the programmer as well as the owner too if I'm not mistaken.

I don't recall WQSA ever being MOYL. I always remember them being talk from at least the early '80s... up until the late '90s when they had that lovely "all-weather" format.

Regarding WQSA.. they were never Al Hams Music of your life, that format was on WWZZ 1280, the former
WYND beginning in 1980. WQSA has a number of formats, was one of the orignal NBC NIS,news and information stations, until that format folded. For years, WQSA was the AM sister station to WQSR,
Quad 102 1/2, the Bay areas first AOR station.

WJRB's Grant Hudson? Same famous radio newsguy from CKLW ? I know Grant lived in the area when several CKLW alumni worked at the Clear Channel Sarasota complex and Oldies 108. I also know that 1220 was silent for years. The license was owned by a guy up in Gainesville if I recall correctly. Currently 1220 still has a lousy low power signal coming off a slant wire attached to a cell tower at Bahia Vista and Beneva. The 96.5 LPFM is also on that cell tower.

It was in late 72 or early 73, when WSAF became WQSA 1220.When Ted Rogers bought WQSA,it had
a cp attached, for an 100,000 watt FM, which went on air in 73, as WQSR ... a mor, big band oriented
station, carrying Chicago White Soz baseball, that evolved into periods of Album rock at night, and evently
became QUAD 102 1/2 ..

You are right quadman about WQSA not using Al Hams Music of your life. I knew that. I ment to say nostalgia in my post.

I saw on another site (I think it was Tampa bay radio.com)that WQSA was called in the late 80's and 90's:

"The Big Q 1220 AM WQSA News Talk Radio and Music that Makes Memories"

If my memory is correct they did talk all day and Adult standards Overnights and weekends. Does anybody know if I am right and when this format started? Was it 1986 or 1989?

Thanks
T.J.
