WJRL flips to "The Edge"?

I heard that WJRL in the Dothan area was stunting yesterday with AC/DC's "For Those About To Rock" and has flipped today as "The Edge".

Is this some straight up rock or classic rock? Seems odd to hear about a flip (or a really late April Fool's joke) while the other Magic-related threads seem to be talking about people getting let go.

Sounds like 977 on steroids. It fits my personal tastes in music very well which is not good for revenue at all (those who know me will agree). I wonder about the move from a strategic stand point for magic, The Edge just took all of the TSA (north) numbers from 977 in PC (magic's) and will hurt kmx tremendously on the male half of their young (that's the whole station, young 12-24) audience. Of course the name fits the company though because the whole outfit is long gone over the edge. Hate it that Dave lost his job, he could have done the format well. This should eat into TRP's 102.5 somewhat, but still that hard driving demo in mkt190 isn't a big revenue producer. But I like the music ...... somewhere BJ Kelli is reading this and nodding in agreement.

I thought "The Edge" was KVD's knife he uses for his frequent upper posterior insertions to others.

Have listened around 7 hours or more yesterday, last night and today; even to the point of not listening for the WOOF howl; and TO ME the edge is really very good musically. Extremely enjoyable. Songs that aren't worn out in my feeble mind, some I've never heard, only one stop set per hour (50) with a couple of psa's or networks, no yacking. But I've said before that if I like it musically that is the absolute worst thing for the stations revenue. How bad for the revue? Well here's a clue: from March 1 to April 1, I wrote ONE check that was not for a regular bill, ONE. My credit card company sent me a new one in mid-feb because the other was about to go past the expiration date ...... the new one still has the sticker on the back that says, "To activate this card please call 1-800-". Really, THANK YOU KVD with the first breath and then with the second, I'm so sorry.

It just blows my mind on how a station can give away as much money as they do in 2.5 months, especially when others are firing people & demoting some to part time people say the economy blah blah but they on the other hand are not. Just yesterday I was listening a little after 5 on Thousand dollar Thursdays and they had already given away 1,400 in cash. Someone please explain to me how WOOF does it ?

WJRL sure has came a long way over the past 6 years. The first time I ever listened was in June 2003 while I was scanning the channels at the Hobo Pantry food mart (Chevron) off Hwy 231 on Ozark, and they were called "Real Country 103.9" They were classic country and I'm not sure if they were ever affiliated w/ ABC's Real Country (Does anyone know???). Then in 2004 they were Classic Rock as Thunder 103.9. Then in 05,06, or 07 they flipped to My 103.9.....
Ahhh, memories ;D

As me, dad, and my younger brother are heading to Daytona Beach tonight (by then it may be the wee hours Saturday) I'll have to tune in to this station on Steroids :D

Travis

The steroids have gotten weak. I'm already tired of the same songs, again and again. Gosh, I bet they have at least 200 songs in rotation. ::)

trajic needs to sharpen the rounded edge after a couple of weeks. Guess I'll go back to public radio and listen to "Performance Today", or at least to 102.5 where Jess does dig up some deep album cuts (Thx Jess!).
