Is anyone else horribly disappointed with "102.7-Your Rock"?

With:
- WMGM's very solid Classic Rock format on 50,000 watts
- WBBO's very strong Alternative Rock format gaining many listeners in Atlantic County
- WYSP still holding it's own in Atlantic County
- WCHR providing an alternative to WMGM for Classic Rock as far south as Ocean City
- WZXL playing a mix of new & classic rock on a 38,000 watt signal

Why is WJSE sounding so miserable?

There's a lot of competition in the market, so why is anyone going to listen to tiny 3,000 watt WJSE when it is one of the most unfocused Rock stations in South Jersey?!

Once Stern leaves 102.7 will become just like 93.1 & 102.3 - another Cape May County station that nobody listens to.

WJSE sounded fantastic under Al Parinello and was successful doing so.

Now there is NOTHING to differentiate WJSE from the competition.

WJSE needs to go back to being on the leading edge of Alternative Rock.

They need to break new music FIRST - before WYSP
They need to dump the Classic Rock that can be heard on WMGM, WZXL & WCHR
They need to play some harder rock to differentiate themselves from WBBO
They need to give people a reason to choose the tiny 3,000 watt station in Palermo over the competition!

There is definately room for a FOCUSED, WELL-PRODUCED MODERN/ALTERNATIVE ROCK station in the Atlantic City area - WJSE just isn't it.

Of course, its bad college radio, not my rock.

B/C they have no PD (or one that knows what they are doing obviously, nobody that works there knows anything about the music, plus they have an airstaff that really is just there by default. hey if you target 12-17 year old kids then their air talent is fine, they are more worried about being talked about and acting like Stern (which they do a terrible job of doing) then they are the air product.

B/C they had a PD/MD that had a clue and cared about the listeners and the music and not about 12-17 year old girls. Plus the entire air-staff then you could tell had a passion for their job and the music. I am not sure if Al had anything to do with the sound as much as he liked being cutting edge and different.

I agree with Jason 100%. I haven't been down there much since I graduated Stockton, but I was just in AC Monday night. The station is terrible. I like new rock WITHOUT Classic rock. I am a 25 year old male and I HATE Classic rock, that is why I cannot listen to WXRK, WMMR, WRAT and all the others. It is like a trainwreck to go from a Blink 182 song into Ozzy. I do not care for HTG/BBO simulcast, but to be fair, I haven't listened to them in a while. I mainly listen to rap, but I loved JSE when I used to go to Stockton.

**ON a side note, I think 106.7 (Former WDOX) sounds pretty good. I took the Cape May Ferry on Tuesday morning, and was able to catch the station. I was going between then and Stern during commercials on my way from AC to the ferry. When I got ON the ferry, I was getting Stern on WHFS better than WYSP, might have been the atmosphere though!<P ID="signature">______________

Just a couple of comments ...
(I've never heard WJSE except once or twice
when I got them back on the air and listened
to see if it was OK)

NO ONE in Atlantic County knows or cares
about WBBO or WCHR. They barely come in
anywhere that matters. Period.

WJSE's tower is in Strathmere, their antenna
is right under WTKU's (not Palermo)

I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be. I still enjoy WJSE and listen to it when I'm in the Atlantic City area, though I do think it sounded better under Al Parinello's direction. Sometimes it even reaches me here and I find myself tuning in if G Rock Radio's music becomes too soft or too predictable - they've got the edgier rock that no other station around can provide.</P>

I agree that the station lacks focus. For instance, they'll play Saliva into Hot Hot Heat into AC/DC. They don't play an excessive amount of Classic Rock (as far as I know, only GN'R, AC/DC and Black Sabbath or Ozzy), which makes the addition of these acts even more baffling - why bother playing any Classic Rock at all, especially when your sister station is the Classic Rock leader?</P>

That said, these guys still play lots of good stuff. They play Slipknot, Deftones, Atreyu, Silverstein and Thrice - how many other stations can you say that about? And some of their jocks seem passionate about the music they play - in particular Shawn, the nighttime guy. Still, they should have followed Parinello's lead because now it seems like they're trying to please everybody and as a result, they may only please the very open minded people that listen to every rock subgenre out there. For their sake, I hope they have a good morning show planned in the wake of Stern's departure.</P>

WCHR may not target or care about Atlantic County, heck WCHR doesn't even know that OCEAN COUNTY exists and thier COL is Manahawkin!

Regardless, WCHR-FM does reach Atlantic County quite well. If you have ANY problem getting WCHR-FM on an indoor boombox in Absecon/Galloway/Pomona/Brigantine/Egg Harbor City then you need a new radio.

WCHR-FM's signal is STRONGER in these Atlantic County towns than it is ANYWHERE in Monmouth County.
