WJSP (88.1) also on 107.7 in Columbus area?

For the last three days I've been hearing 88.1 WJSP simulcasting on 107.7 with a fair to good signal. Signal ID's as WJSP 88.1 Warm Springs/Columbus.

I don't have my directional antennas up yet, so I don't know if it's originating off Pine Mountain, or from somewhere else.

Anyone know?

A translator licensed to LADONIA AL that is listed as owned by Radio Assist Ministry that is rebroadcasting WJSP Warm Springs. The permit was to expire on April 7 but I guess Georgia Public Broadcasting got it up in time. The calls for 107.7 are W299AX.

That doesn't make any sense. 88.1 has an excellent signal in Columbus.

I assume Radio Assist Ministry is really Calvary Chapel. Do you think they are going to switch the translated station?

Another tidbit...it's broadcasting RDS, identical to 88.1 ... can an analog broadcast w/RDS be re-broadcasted with RDS intact?

Are translators not subject to the same spacing requirements as LPFM and regular class stations??? Come on now, something can't be right having a translator on 107.7 from Ladonia, when the 100kW powerhouse 107.3 broadcasts *LESS THAN* 2 miles away from Ladonia!!! That is, of course, if 107.7 really is originating from Ladonia.

Tomorrow (Sunday) I'll try to see which direction their broadcasting from.

EDIT: According to the link provided by RickRose, the translator is located at the same site used by Sunny 100. I drive by that area almost everyday on HWY 80 and 280 Bypass, so I'll check next time (Monday morning at the latest).

A bunch of the translators that Radio Assist was awarded have GPB stations listed as primary stations. Basically, they are shopping these to other religious groups such as WayFM, AFR, et al. The construction permits are about to run out on many of these so they have to sign them on or loose them. My guess is that they don't have the resources to sign them all on (they applied for 3000+), so they'll activate the ones in more populated areas.

These might not be on long. W218CF 91.5 (also translates WJSP) in Cordele received their license to cover on 2/8. On 2/2, they filed to go silent. They told the FCC that new electrical service needs to be brought to the transmitter site. The application is listed as being dismissed, so I don't know their status is now. If the application had been granted, they could be off the air for up to 1 year.
