Maine WJTO, WLAM to go dark April 13th

The AM band radio signals carry a little further over water as opposed to over land. So to the extent the straight line path from the transmitter to coastal towns is over the ocean, the reception in those towns will be a little better than otherwise expected.
Remember what Kevtronics said about salt water. Fresh water is a poor conductor unless it has lots of conductive minerals in it. So stations along the Great Lakes just don't get much of a benefit from being next to water.

Im sorry but it’s just not the same the station. It definitely has a different feel now. Not to mention Garabedian is on his 80’s how long before WJIB goes off the air?

If WJIB were to be sold --- and $$ was no object -- I'd LOVE to take it over!! For me, this would be TRULY a dream-come-true!!
Here's hoping "The Memories Station" lives on!!:)

Saw this ad: "Unlimited Royalty Free Music" on this forum. Hmmmm. Could music royalties be the major cost of keeping a small station on the air? A station could own a magnificent music library and a own a magnificent piece of land still well suited for a tower but it costs money to put that music on that tower. (Are there decent money raising uses of land that could coexist with a radio tower? Parking lots? Small farm or barnyard?)

The planned shutoff of WJTO and WLAM has been deferred as the stations may have a buyer. So good news for Ancient Modulation listeners of train wrecks for now! Stay tuned...
