WJUS 1310 AM In Marion is Moving To Selma...

Visit this link for the details: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/info?call=WJUS&service=AM

R.D.P. <><

P.S. Hope Rev. Glenn King (Grace Baptist Church of Selma) will drop the satellite fed Blues and Party Soul format and give Selma it's first all Black Gospel radio station.  Think about the impact this station would have, on a city that is experiencing a high crime rate and other troubles. Thinking about this move, is already exciting me. Hope we'll soon get our first all Black Gospel radio station, in Selma Alabama. Only time will tell. Stay tuned...

It's offical, WJUS 1310 AM is moving to Selma Alabama.  Mr. Glenn King wants to locate in a larger market.  This station will be Selma's first all Black Gospel radio station, once the move has been completed.  Also, I have just been informed that the old 94.3 FM translator may soon have a new owner.  Are you ready for this one, WJUS 1310 AM may be buying this station, so that they can rebroadcast their new Black Gospel format, on the FM dial.

If this info, I just got, from Mr. Rob Moore is true, (WMBV Dixon's Mills and WRNF Selma) then that will be exciting for my hometown.  Two new Black Gospel radio stations, along with Moody returning, would be a great start to help revive a dead city.  :D

P.S. I'm still working on my radio dream too.  Haven't given up on it yet.  Still looking for someone that would like to help me, bring a real "Reformed" based Christian radio station to Selma.

Funny, I surely thought the FCC didn't allow this sort of thing.

Yeah, AM stations cant have FM Translators.

Part 15 AM Radio is going to be your best bet for starting something up, RDP.

What about the 40kHz spacing requirement? WJUS is at 1310, WMRK at 1340. ???

I didn't even know about that last statement. ???  Maybe Mr. Glenn King (WJUS Owner) might want to check into relocating to a new frequency, before moving to Selma.

Mr. Glenn King (Grace Temple Baptist Church and WJUS owner) is thinking about getting this translator.

Thanks for your responses to this post and I hope this new info will help out.

P.S. With those two stations being so close, won't that cause them to interfer with each other? I would seem to think so.

As I understand it, the spacing requirement is 30Khz

WMRK 1340's tower is about 2 miles east of Selma. WJUS 1310's tower will be about 5 NW of Selma so I doubt there will be much an issue.

You can make a minor change in frequency, which would be 30Khz either way and in this case.. from 1280 to 1340. With WMRK being on 1340, WJUS couldn't move down the dial to the right.

It could probably fit at 1280 with at least the same power it's new CP will have(1100 Watts Day/16 watts night, down from 5000 Watts Day/36 Watts Night in Marion). Putting anything on 1290 or 1300 in Selma would be too close to WTLS 1300. yes, that's far away but AM signals travel more then you think.

I don't know what WJUS' owner plans on doing with a translator, but it certianly won't be be broadcasting WJUS, at least legally it wont.

Oh and before you say, "Well, with their tower 5 miles Northwest of the city, 16 Watts won't cover Selma very well at night". Well you're right. Class D's (Which is what WJUS is, A Daytimer)aren't required to cover their entire City Of License at night.

I hope this sheds some light on things.

WWPG in Tuscaloosa is already on 1280, so that wouldn't work. WWPG has a CP to increase power and change its COL to Eutaw, moving the xmtr even closer to Selma than it is now. Here's the link to the predicted daytime coverage of the new CP on radio-locator:

Thanks for correcting me, I had the feeling I was forgetting about something. SO, right now.. effectively... WJUS can NOT move their frequency until the FCC opens another major change window 2 or 3 years down the road.

I'm sorry...what does a "reformed based christian radio station" mean or entail? ???

This is what I mean. I'm fishing for this type of radio station.

http://www.redeemerbroadcasting.org/

They are located in Olivebridge New York and own several stations, in the northern New York state area.

I've been talking with these people and they are trying to help me get something going.

Hope we'll soon be able to pursue this radio station and bring it to pass.

P.S. Thanks for asking that question. Hope this info helps.

You know, Paul had a good notion to consider. Someone may have asked before, but have you given any thought to going the Part-15 route? Put together a nice, broadcast quality (or near b-cast quality) studio and synchronize a few AM Rangemasters together to one expanded band frequency...you wouldn't need a license, and unlike the translator, you could broadcast your own original programming locally.

If you do it right you could very well hook up with Redeemer Broadcasting or another religious network with a satellite feed...there's a Part-15 in Flagstaff, AZ (IIRC) that's a Fox Sports Radio affiliate airing The Jim Rome Show. A part-15 operator in Sandy Springs, GA has local community talk shows and broadcasts city-council meetings.

Like that idea. I may run with that suggestion and give it a chance. At this moment, I'm still seeking God's will on this. Unless He opens that door for me, I'm not going to do anything.

Local radio is something that we need more of. We have way too much of these big companies running the show and having a very tight playlist.

I want to have a variety of music and programming, that no one else is currently catering to.

I've found that Prayer is the best route to go. I'm a firm believer that if this dream works out, God will see it through and have everything planned out. (This includes my coverage area, the frequency and band where I'll be located and the amount of power I'll broadcast with)

P.S. I haven't given up yet. I'm still praying and looking for that person, that would like to help me pursue something.

The **BEST** Part 15 Transmitter out there is the AM1000 Rangemaster from Keith Hamilton. They run $995 each, but you get a discount if you order more then one.

They can be synched together, best bet is to use 3 or more together at one location.. will get a much stronger signal.
