WJVC To Carry Long Island Ducks Games

WJVC/"My Country 96.1" has announced a partnership with the Long Island Ducks, in which they will carry a limited number of games:

Only weekend Ducks broadcasts will air on 96.1 because "it would be hard for the radio station to break format everyday during the week," notes the article.

But still... How sad is it that a minor-league baseball team has their games carried on a commercial radio station on Long Island, while the storied Islanders franchise has to settle for Hofstra University's radio station?

Incidentally, the article notes that Chris King, who currently calls Islanders games on Hofstra's WRHU, has also been tabbed to do the Ducks play-by-play on WJVC, alongside David Weiss.
 
In the linked article, station owner JVC's President John Caracciolo states, "On Long Island, we have to do country a little different."
I have not listened a lot to WJVC My Country 96.1, as I receive a better signal from Kicks 105.5. But My Country 96.1 sounds to me like a conventional country station, which is fine. Has anyone listening to the station found something that is unusual in the music selections or other programming? Are certain popular songs being left out?
 
Keep in mind that the JVC - Ducks partnership makes sense, as the field is close to WJVC's transmitter. Using this guide, the WRHU - Islanders partnership makes total sense as well, as the tx for WRHU is literally next door to Nassau Coliseum.

I suppose you have to get a station if you can. WJVC is very sketchy to the West of the ballpark which means you can't listen to the post game show going home to Nassau. It isn't great is some spots to the East either. But it is apparently the best available station.
 
Minor league baseball on a minor league (at best) radio station. Excellent fit.
