WJWJ closes studios

WJWJ, one of the few ETV stations in SC (it was down to 4 running their own programming) to have their own studios to produce local programming, has let go of its last two employees and their studios have closed. Now it'll all be out of Columbia

Sad day for Beaufort County, which has lost one of its few sources of local news (other than the Savannah and Charleston stations). They used to do a lot of programming there. Until a few years ago, they even did a newscast there every night.

Article from Island Packet:

The only program in Sumter's WRJA is Making It Grow sponsored by Clemson Agricultural Field Services. When the Clemson Fieid experts retire they will probably lock the studio doors for good of another Super Regional ETV station. :(

[EDIT]

The Savannah stations do a MORE than ample job of covering Bft Co news, including a dedicated newscast on channel 3.2.

Anything that closes a local broadcast studio is never good.

Agreed. Any studio, any town, any size, any "level" - all bad
With all the concern about national unemplyment, I wonder if there's a way we can compare the number of those working in radio now, compared to 2000 - or better yet 1995 (pre-deregulation)
